Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (June 16, 2015) – Chase Johnson ended upside down last Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track during a rough King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series main event.

“It was headed toward a pretty good night, but instead of bad luck it was driver error that stopped us this time,” he said.

Johnson opened the event by qualifying 13th quickest in the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car, which put the team one spot out of the heat race inversion.

“Coming to the checkered the officials pushed out another car so we got cut one lap, but they gave us another lap later,” he said. “We went out for one more lap of qualifying, but it wasn’t any better than our first lap. It was a bummer missing the inversion because that would have put us on the pole of a heat race.”

Johnson then finished sixth in a heat race to garner the 13th starting position for the 30-lap main event.

“The car was absolutely perfect in the feature,” he said. “Right at the beginning I could tell we had something that nobody else had. We were able to make the top and the cushion work well, which most guys couldn’t and were around the bottom. It was a thin, scary line up there. We made it work up to seventh. Then the cushion started to fade and it lost some moisture.”

Johnson was battling just outside the top five when he slid off the track around Lap 18.

“I hopped over it and somehow something broke on Jonathan Allard’s steering and he went off the edge of the track with me,” he said. “Me and him got together. We’re not sure if it hurt something in the front end. We kept going, but the car wasn’t the same after that. I was trying to run that same line and it wasn’t really working. A few laps later I went off the cushion in the same corner and it wasn’t as pretty. It was a pretty good flip, but it didn’t do too much damage.”

After rallying back inside the top 15, Johnson’s night ended with approximately five laps remaining when his car flipped. He was credited with a 17th-place result.

Johnson will return to his family owned sprint car this Saturday at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., with the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s really our first race in our own winged car because the motor blew up on Lap 1 in Calistoga earlier this year. It should be a great show with great competition.”
