Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (July 20, 2015) – Chase Johnson got off to a rough start last Saturday at Placerville Speedway.

Johnson kicked off the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series event by drawing a high number during the pill draw, which sent him out late to qualify in the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car.

“We pulled a 94 out of 100 and when you go to Placerville you want to be the very first car on the track,” he said. “We were the second-to-last car on the track. The track really slowed down. We fought all night trying to get out of the hole we were in. That’s how it goes sometimes.”

Johnson qualified 23rd quickest around the bullring, which lined him up on the outside of the third row of a heat race. Unfortunately, he pulled off the track early during the heat and was relegated to the B Main.

“We really didn’t find much speed and forward bite until the B Main when the track got wider,” he said. “We transferred out of the B and then we stayed clean for a good 29 out of 30 laps in the main event.”

Johnson, who finished fifth in the consolation race to earn a transfer, rallied from his 21st starting position in the feature to inside the top 15 on the tricky track before a late-race crash.

“Coming to the checkered flag out of turn four we were running 14th and the guy in front of me got a little over his head and lost his car,” he said. “He drove down the track and collected me. It was a bummer to end the night that way, but sometimes you have to expect that at Placerville because of how small and tight it is.”

Johnson was credited with a 16th-place result.

He will return to King of the West competition this Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., for the Peter Murphy Classic.

“I always love going to Tulare,” he said. “I really like that track. I’m excited to get to the Peter Murphy Classic. This will be my first year running it. Peter is a really good guy. I can’t wait to see what he’s been working on all year long.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Newman Freeman Racing

During the 1976 auto racing season, actor Paul Newman became interested in forming a professional auto racing team and contacted Bill Freeman from Santa Barbara. Freeman is credited as the man who introduced Newman to professional auto racing management and their company specialized in Can-Am, Indy Cars and other high performance racing automobiles.

“The reason Paul Newman got into racing was because of a guy named Bill Freeman,” Johnson said. “Bill hasn’t really been involved in racing since Paul’s death so we really appreciate his support and partnership.”

Johnson would also like to thank Johnny Franklin’s Mufflers, Napa Auto Parts, PitStopUSA.com, Shifty Illusions, Flowmaster, Don’s Truck Repair, VSR, Fast Lube Plus, K&N Filters, Oroville Cycle, I-Wear Graphix, Driven Raceway, Nor-Cal Transmission, Justin Henry Racing and Chevron Pro-Gas for their continued support.
