Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2015) – Chase Johnson recorded his sixth top-10 finish of the season last Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway during King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series competition.

Johnson piloted the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned No. 68 to a ninth-place result, which marked his second-best finish with the series.

“It was a really good night,” he said. “At this point of our season that’s what we’re focusing on is getting those finishes. A top-10 finish for us with the year we’ve been having feels really good. We feel like we’ve got our momentum back that we started the year with.”

Johnson opened the night by qualifying 13th quickest, which missed the heat race inversion by only one spot. He then finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race.

“They reworked the track before we went out there,” he said. “It was really, really wet and the race went green to checkered. All the cars were locked into the A Main so we started 13th because of our qualifying time.”

The main event got off to a sluggish start as there were several cautions before the first lap was completed.

“There were a lot of yellows,” he said. “The track was still really wet and greasy. There were some dry patches as well. It was really tricky early on. I was just trying to keep my nose clean. There were a couple of crashes in front of us we avoided. We picked off a couple of guys here and there. At the end of the race we really started coming alive. We were headed in the right direction.”

Johnson battled inside the top 10 throughout the main event and at one point he climbed as high as sixth place before he settled for a ninth-place result.

“Our best lap was on Lap 28 so we were getting faster each lap,” he said. “The car was definitely coming to me. A ninth-place finish is something to build on.”

Johnson will make his debut this weekend at Santa Maria Raceway in Santa Maria, Calif., on Friday and at Ventura Raceway in Ventura, Calif., on Saturday with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

“It’s really exciting for me,” he said. “I love going to new tracks. Both of them are smaller and Ventura is really small. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
