Southwest Sprints Eye Saturday's Race at Arizona Speedway; Peoria's "Canyon Clash" Falls to The Elements

The 2nd Annual “Mother’s Day Celebration” at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek Saturday is next up for the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars after rains washed out last Saturday night’s 6th “Canyon Clash” at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz.

Stevie Sussex of Tempe, Ariz. enters Saturday’s race with a 28-point lead over three-time and defending series champion R.J. Johnson after a pair of wins and a second place finish in four starts. Johnson also has a victory in four “top-10” finishes so far this season. That victory came at Arizona Speedway April 9.

Johnson has won 10 of the 17 USAC Southwest Sprint races contested at Arizona Speedway, including the last two. Sussex, whose victories this year came at Canyon and Cocopah, continues to seek his initial win in Queen Creek.
