Weekend Rewind: American Sprint Car Series
TULSA, Okla. (June 15, 2015) This week’s review of the American Sprint Car Series takes on National and Regional action within the ASCS Nation with events in Montana and Texas.
Taking on the Devil’s Bowl Speedway, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real brought 36 drivers to the half-mile oval.
For the ASCS Frontier Region, 25 drivers took on the Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade with 24 making the trip to the Billings Motorsports Park.
Nature did have her way with one ASCS sanctioned event with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region having to reschedule events at the U.S. 36 Raceway to Friday, June 19.

Friday, June 12, 2015
• David Hoiness (Frontier) The Frontier Region’s first visit of 2015 to the Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. ended with David Hoiness in Victory Lane. Hoiness topped a field of 25 for his first win of the 2015 season.
Saturday, June 13, 2015
• Wayne Johnson (National) Taking on the half-mile Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, it was Oklahoma’s Wayne Johnson who parked in Victory Lane on Saturday night. The win is Wayne’s first of the season against the National Tour.
• David Hoiness (Frontier) Double up for the No. 27dd as David Hoiness put the Beer Wagon on the front stretch at the Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont. on Saturday night.
News, Notes, and More:
• A Vote Was Cast – For those who don’t know, Aaron Reutzel was not able to attend the Devil’s Bowl Speedway. This could have been a major blow to his championship hopes as he attended the funeral of longtime friend and supporter, Bob Miller. However, the drivers of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour met prior to the night’s races and voted to award Aaron 24th place points in exchange for a full point provisional. If you’re wondering why, the reason is based on events during 2006 when Daniel McMillin was killed. The drivers then voted a point’s adjustment for Jesse Hockett to keep him in the chase as he was not able to attend that weekend’s races. A similar courtesy was also paid to Brandon Hanks who ended up in the Hospital and was unable to race at the Bubba Raceway Park.
• Making Gains – For Wayne Johnson, the view on racing is always big picture. In the grand scheme of things, the picture he’s painting is coming around nicely at this point as Wayne has picked up seven spots in Lucas Oil ASCS point standings since the season began in Florida. To put that into prospective, coming from tenth to third, he’s added $15,000 to his end of year check.
• Dry Spell – It was a long one for David Hoiness who, according to ASCS Frontier P.R. Guy Andrew Kunas, last saw victory in August, 2013 at the Gallatin Speedway. To make his weekend even sweeter, the No. 27dd found victory No. 2 on the year the following night in Billings.
• Podium Real Estate – At this point, they may need to re-name the podium “Hickle Place” since the Washington shoe has been there six times in six nights. Three wins to start the season, a pair of bronze showings, and Saturday’s silver step has put the driver of the No. 23n out front by 46 over Phil Dietz who has three runner-up finishes so far this season.
• Best Finish – Jordan Weaver posted her best finish against the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real on Saturday. Staying in the top-five for the first part of the race, Weaver ended up 10th when the checkered flag fell. This marks Weaver’s first top-ten run against the National Tour.
• Charging – And charge they did as Seth Bergman and Travis Rilat had to dig themselves out of a hold on Saturday night. Bergman, who ended up utilizing a provisional came from 23rd to fifth. Rilat charged from 20th to fourth.
Coming Up:
There is plenty of racing this week as the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real continues Speedweek 2015 with events at the Lawton Speedway on Wednesday, followed by Creek County Speedway, Salina Speedway (the one in Kansas), and Lucas Oil Speedway.
The Southern Trailer Works ASCS Gulf South Region presented by Griffith Truck and Equipment takes on Golden Triangle Raceway Park on Friday and Gator Motorplex on Saturday.
ASCS Warriors are on tap for three nights. Combined with the National Tour at Lucas Oil Speedway, the diamond date will be preceded by the U.S. 36 Raceway with the rescheduled “Tribute to Jesse” at the Double X Speedway on Sunday.
ASCS Frontier Regional action ends out the list with events at the Electric City Speedway on Friday and Saturday.
