Chandler Captures POWRi West Championship
Tulsa, OK (November 2, 2017) Although the 2017 season had been shortened by Mother Nature with only 19 of the 26 scheduled events being ran, it was evident that it would still take teams to their limits. In the end, Grady Chandler from Piedmont, Oklahoma forged through to pick up his first POWRi West Midget League Championship. Out of the 19 races scheduled, Chandler competed in 18 feature events, earning one win, 8 top five finishes and 11 top 10 finishes. His consistency throughout the season scored him a 620 point advantage over second place Wesley Smith and 890 points over third place Kory Schudy. Rookie of the Year winner and teammate to Chandler, Cannon McIntosh finished fourth and fellow Rookie of the Year contender Zane Hendricks rounded out the top five.
Chandler, driving the Southside Mowers, Lucas Oil sponsored Boss Chassis found Victory Lane at RPM Speedway and strung three of his five second place finishes in the month of September that allowed Chandler to put some distance from Smith. Second place Smith was unable to find Victory Lane, but came close on several occasions. Schudy, McIntosh and Hendricks all earned wins this season and made over 80 percent of the features ran.
Drivers also earning finishes in the top 10 in POWRi West Midget League points include sixth place Matt Moore(1 win), seventh place Hunter Fisher, eighth place Ace McCarthy(1 win), ninth place Steven Shebester(1 win) and Joe B. Miller rounded out the top 10.
