Blurton Eyes Five Championships in 2018

Inside Line Promotions – QUINTER, Kan. (March 27, 2018) – For most sprint car drivers winning one or two championships in a season is the primary focus, but not for Zach Blurton.

He plans to chase five titles in 2018, including the International Motor Contest Association national championship, the United Rebel Sprint Series championship, the Colorado Alliance Tour championship and the state IMCA championships in Colorado and Kansas.

Blurton earned the URSS championship and the IMCA Kansas state title in 2017 while also finishing ninth in the IMCA national standings.

“We will be going to Colorado a lot more this year,” he said. “It’s closer than some of the tracks we competed at last year. It looks like things have turned around there and with the way the IMCA points work based on car counts it will help us toward that national championship. We finished in the top 10 the last two years in the national points and now we can run a lot in Colorado and Kansas and cut down on our travel and the way the schedules work out in those states none of the races overlap.

“The URSS will be a fantastic tour this year. I think we have one race that pays $700 to win and all the rest pay $1,000 to $3,000 with the Belleville Nationals (in Belleville, Kan.) in August having a huge payout.”

Blurton is also partnering with fellow sprint car driver Adam Gullion of Lincoln, Neb., for a handful of shows in 2018.

“Adam and his family and my family have become best friends,” Blurton said. “It started at the track and he and his wife opened their home to us when we raced over there. I’m going to put my motor in his spare car when we race in Nebraska and that way I don’t have to haul the rig over there. Adam lost his toter home to a fire this past weekend. I’m so glad everyone was okay. It was a scary situation.”

In preparation for the 2018 season, Blurton had the opportunity to practice last weekend at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan.

“We got a new Eagle this year and a new motor,” he said. “We went out and dad told me to take it easy, but when the green light came on the car was just fast. It felt like my old JEI. I was really partial to that old JEI. I loved that car and had a lot of success with it. I was initially a little uncertain about this new Eagle, but I had a lot of conversations with Jason Martin at EMI about what I wanted in the new car and they delivered. This new car felt very comfortable and fast.”

Blurton was set to travel to Missouri and Nebraska this weekend to kick off his season, but with cold temperatures in the forecast the team has decided to head to Dodge City Raceway Park for a weekly 305ci sprint car show.
