Cobra Strikes at Outlaw Speedway
Under sunny, warm conditions totally unexpected for late September, Outlaw Speedway welcomed the Capitol Renegade United Racing Club, Patriot Sprints Tour and the Empire Super Sprints for the 2nd Annual Outlaw Speedway Fall Nationals. With 38 cars signed into the pit area a format of four heat races were used to set the A-Main, the Pole Dash, Dash for Cash and the two B-Mains.
The Sprint car heats were won by Jared Zimbardi who returned from a wild wreck at the Williams Grove Speedway earlier this month, Scott Kruetter, Johnathan Preston, and Chuck Hebing. The Pole Dash was won by Johnathan Preston and Davie Franek won the Dash for Cash. The two B-Mains were won by URC regular Josh Weller and Coleman Gulick.
The 30-lap URC/Patriot/ESS A-Main saw Johnathan Preston grab the lead with 6th place starter Chuck Hebing jumping past Scott Kruetter to take the runner up spot. A lap 10 caution for a crash involving George Suprick restacked the field, then a multiple car flip by Paulie Colagiovanni and Steve Collins brought out the red flag. Hebing got back to the point on the restart with Kruetter going to second as Joe Trenca moved to fourth. Trenca moved past Kruetter into second as a spin on lap 23 again bunched the field.
Coming off of turn disaster could have struck with front running Kruetter losing a right front tire on the restart in front of almost the entire field. During the caution, the red flag flew for a fuel stop. On the restart, it was all Cobra with 20th place starter Josh Weller now jumping from 6th to 3rd going into turn 1. Jason Schultz also jumped into the top five on the restart, but Hebing was not to be denied, taking his second straight Fall Nationals win over Trenca,
Thomas, Schultz, and Preston, who snagged fifth from Weller on the final lap.
URC Tidbits: Multiple URC regulars made the trip up north as Justin Whittall, Derek Locke, Curt Michael, Josh Weller, Jason Shultz and Keith Prutzman were all in the pit area. All URC visiting cars qualified for the feature event. Both Whittall and Locke were first time visitors to the Dundee, NY track. The Club will now have just about a month off as their next scheduled wing race will take place at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday October 21st. With the continued absence of Davie Franek from the URC circuit, Curt Michael is a lock for his 10th United Racing Club Championship.
