Bad Chad Layton tames BAPS Motor Speedway

YORK HAVEN, PA – In a funny video posted to the Ritter Racing Facebook page, Chad Layton was asked if he had what it takes, his response? “I always have what it takes”, and in fact he did. The Harrisburg native went on to take the win in the Capitol Renegade United Racing Club 25 lap feature at BAPS Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 12, 2019.

A season high 40 cars signed in to take the green at BAPS on what turned out to be a beautiful Saturday night. Many drivers from the 410 and 358 divisions decided to show case their skills and compete against the best of the best in URC. With the points battle heating up between Chad Layton and Josh Weller, both drivers were looking for a solid night against some strong cars. In their respective heat races, Layton powered to the front from the fourth starting spot claiming the win while Weller finished 4th, outside of the redraw but securing himself in the show.

The feature rolled off with Ryan Smith leading the field to the green with Layton to his outside. The track remained fast all night which allowed the drivers to put on a great show for the fans. Smith pulled out to an early lead with Layton right behind him. We would see a red flag early in the race as Derek Locke, and Cody Fletcher got together putting Fletcher on his roof; both drivers were ok but retired to the pit area for the night. On this restart, Layton took full advantage and took the lead from Smith while URC regulars Curt Michael, and Weller were battling for positions a few spots behind. Another caution would wave for a stopped car which would then give Smith another chance at Layton.

This time, Smith took advantage and drove passed Layton but it was short lived. Another caution flew setting up another restart. Layton was stronger on this one sending him to the front where he never looked back. Freddie Rahmer made his way into the top 3 from the eighth starting position, passing Smith and looking as though he was going to get Layton, too. However, it was all about Bad Chad as at the end of the 25 laps, the Ritter Racing no. 35 pulled into victory lane for the third time this year.

Chad Layton would like to thank his crew, his friends and family for helping him reach victory lane. He would also like to thank his sponsors: Selinsgrove Ford, Solutions Aqua, Bud Godek Auto Body, Allen Shaffer Jr & Sons Insurance, Trades, Bodmer Family Footcare, Maxim Racing, DMY Performance, and Slade Shock Technology. With this win, Layton has extended his points lead over Weller to 75 points with only 3 points races left for the 2019 season.

The KSE Hard Charger for the night went to the 11A of Austin Bishop who advanced 9 spots after starting in nineteenth and finishing tenth. Heat race wins went to Troy Wagaman Jr., Smith, Michael, and Layton. The two B-main features were won by Ed Aikin, and Jeff Rohrbaugh.

The Capitol Renegade United Racing Club will be back in action this Saturday, October 19 at Port Royal Speedway to take part in the Open Wheel Madeness, part 3. We will be joining the 410 and 305 sprint cars on the card for the evening, Racing will kick off at 4:30 p.m.
