Wissota Late Model Challenge Series

Badger State Doubleheader Up Next This Weekend

The silver anniversary of the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series continues to roll on with a pair of events this weekend at the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, WI on Friday night and the at the Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday night. The Friday night event is the annual Duane Mahder 55, boasting a $5,555 to prize for the winner in honor of the former series champion. Saturday’s weekend visit to Rice Lake offers a $2,000 winner’s prize for series competitors.

The Mahder 55 enters its 7th year in remembrance of 2001 Series Champion Duane Mahder. Duane, who raced to seven career Challenge Series victories during his successful career, was an avid series follower and was able to top the series standings in 2001 for his efforts. The event, organized by his longtime crew chief ‘Bulldog’ Scott Andersen, has been hosted at Red Cedar during 5 of the previous years, with Jimmy Mars winning ALL FIVE events. The 2020 event was held at the Rice Lake Speedway due to Covid restrictions at Red Cedar. Kevin Adams won that event for his first career Late Model victory, however neither driver is competing in the Late Model division in 2023, so there will be a new champion this Friday night.

WISSOTA Modifieds and Super Stocks are also on the agenda for the night.
Rice Lake has hosted fourteen prior Challenge Series events with the most recent event being held in 2021 where Jimmy Mars raced to the win and Joel Cryderman topped the field during the series’ first visit in 1999. Cryderman added three more series wins to his totals, owning four career wins at Rice Lake, while Mars has three triumphs in series action at the Western Wisconsin oval. Jake Redetzke, AJ Diemel and John Kaanta have each won a pair of series events at Rice Lake and Chad Mahder also topped series action on one occasion. WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will also be in action for a full night of racing.

Doar leads the series point standings heading into the weekend by 65 markers over Jake Redetzke. Sam Mars is third, Jeff Massingill is fourth and John Kaanta rounds out the top five in the current standings.

Racing is schedule to begin at 7pm both nights. Both events will be livestreamed on WatchFYE.tv for those unable to be at the track in person to enjoy the action.
