Lawrence Tackling Chili Bowl Nationals for Third Time
Inside Line Promotions – LILLIAN, Texas (Jan. 8, 2018) – Zane Lawrence is looking forward to living on Tulsa time this week to compete in the 32nd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals for the third time in his career.
He is slated to race on Friday during preliminary action before Saturday’s finale inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla.
“I’m excited to be running the Chili Bowl again this year,” he said. “It’s such a prestigious race that everybody wants to get the opportunity to run at least once in their career. Plus, the atmosphere of the week-long event is incredible. It’s an awesome race to kick off the season.
“Normally I like racing earlier in the week because you have more time to fix any damage you may have before Saturday, but I opted to go later in the week this year so we will see how it plays out.”
During the 2017 Chili Bowl Nationals, Lawrence earned a third-place result in his heat race before working his way through the C Main to transfer into the B Main. He finished 12th in that race on his preliminary night before transferring through a G Main and advancing from 16th to 11th in an F Main during the finale.
It was a big improvement from his debut in 2016 when he endured a DNF in a heat race to end the event early.
“Hopefully we can continue to improve our results each year and take another step forward this year,” he said. “It’s such a tough event that you have to race well and catch a break or two along the way to be successful.”
