Taylor has Fresh Car, Engine and Confidence for Chili Bowl

Inside Line Promotions – GREEN RIVER, Wyo. (Jan. 9, 2019) – Zac Taylor is healed up, has a new car and fresh engine, and is riding a wave of confidence heading into the 33rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals hosted inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla., next week.

Toward the end of the 2018 racing season Taylor was injured in a non-racing incident, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. That injury has healed and Taylor and the Todd Henry owned midget team have assembled a new chassis.

“The collar bone is healed up and I’ve been working on getting physically ready for the 2019 season,” Taylor said. “We have a newer car and I’m excited to see how it performs. Last year we fought engine issues all season and we diagnosed that as being a problem with the crank triggers. We went to a newer style, one they use on drag cars, and the engine went to Stanton’s. They went through it and it’s ready to go.”

Taylor will be competing in his fourth Chili Bowl and his second in a row with Henry, who he has driven for the past couple of seasons along with the competing in his family’s 360ci winged sprint car. Last year was Taylor’s most successful Chili Bowl outing, making it into his qualifying night A Main and garnering enough points to start a C Main during the finale.

“To make it to a C Main on Saturday with the level of competition and equipment was remarkable for our little team,” he said. “We are excited to improve on that performance this year.”

There are more than 350 entries for the 2019 Chili Bowl and Taylor will compete on Thursday, Jan. 17, as well as during the event finale on Jan. 19.

“The heat race is the key,” he said. “If you start up front you have to stay there and if you are in the back you better pass a lot of cars and get in the qualifier. We were able to pass cars in the heat last year and hold our own in the qualifier. I had a shot at advancing into a B Main on Saturday, but packed a wheel and got frustrated and lost concentration. I have to remain focused and determined all week.”

As for the 2019 season, Taylor said he and Henry will once again team up for midget events. He added the family 360ci sprint car plans are to get to some bigger races in the region.

“I want to get more seat time and experience against national caliber teams,” he said.
