Retiring Driver Spotlight: Blayne Ridgley

After visiting the track with his Pappy in the summer of 2012 to watch a race & Mike Frey sitting him in one of Cade’s cars, Blayne & Pappy returned home with a scholarship car totally unbeknownst to Mom & Grammy.

· It’s been constant racing from that point; Jr/Sr Novice, Jr/Sr Honda, Jr/Sr Animal, Jr/Sr Stock, Lt/Hvy 160 & Lf/Hvy World Formula

· As urged by fellow members/drivers Blayne got his own car in the fall of 2012 then added cars to begin running additional classes

· He is one of just a handful of Drivers still racing that have competed at the Old Hulman Mini Speedway Track, the Temp Track at the Fairgrounds & in the 1st group of drivers to race at THQMA’s state of the art new facility.

· The friendships that he has made with the group of drivers he stated racing with is one of the things that he appreciates most about THQMA

· He mentions sitting by a fire on overnight races & golf cart riding with his friends, fun nights, out of town races with other families from THQMA, the 1st Slip and Slides at CCQMA, everyone getting stuck at Bunker Hill & Lincoln. (notice he hasn’t mentioned winning or losing a particular race???)

· Enjoys the Regionals but particularly the National races. He’s proud of starting on pole & finishing well at his 1st QMA Grands in Jr Honda (If we only knew then how hard/rare it is just to make an A-Main let alone start up front we would have appreciated it more at the time)

· He & Pappy repeat to each other on the way to each race “The reason we race is to have fun”. The excitement/stress sometimes gets amped up but that is always our goal.

· He plans to continue racing next year but 1st to enjoy his final year of quarter midget racing.
