POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints See Alex Truscinski Earn Sixth Win of the Year
Belleville, IL. (08/31/2020) The POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints would kick off the weekend of speed this past Saturday night on the high-banked quarter-mile Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN. Battling wing-to-wing, fans were treated to a lightning sprint special with all competitors attempting to claim the bonus money. Alex Truscinski would not be denied on the evening, cruising to his sixth series feature win this season.
Early heat race action was highly contested with the first heat won by Kelsi Pederson followed by Cody Swenson & Jason Berg rounding out the top three spots. Heat race two was won by current point leader Dexter Dvergsten followed by Alex Truscinski and third-place finisher Alan Truscinski. The redraw would set the exciting stage for feature racing as the top three drivers in the points standings would all start within the positions 4th-8th in the main event lineup.
Going green would be a bit of a task for the eager drivers as a pair of red-flags would wave in the initial laps. The first red came when #19 of Wesley Van Drunen went spinning to avoid a car, Wesley would tip over ending his night early. Then, a second stoppage would come after #13 of Alan Truscinski & Lawrence Verlarud made hard contact in turn four, causing Verlarud to make a hard turn left. With nowhere to retreat to avoid the carnage, #93 of Kelsi Pederson ended up rolling her car on the front straightaway. The incident unfortunately claimed three cars for the night, with all drivers walking away unharmed but also unable to resume racing.
The remainder of the race was all the Alex Truscinski show, setting sail on the field and claiming the top prize after leading the remaining twenty-two caution-free laps. POWRi MKLS Point leader Dexter Dvergsten would not let Truscinski get away easily though, keeping pace in hot pursuit ultimately unable to reel in Truscinski and settling for a solid second-place finish. Dvergsten would be able to pad his series points lead over the weekend as Kelsi Pederson struggled with a DNF for the feature.
With five races left on the season schedule, the gained points for Dexter sure put the pressure on Pederson and the rest of the field as Dvergsten has proven the model of consistency all season. Rounding out the top five was Dvergsten, Cody Swenson, Alan Truscinski & Jason Berg.
The POWRi MLKS event on Sunday night at Sheyenne Speedway was unfortunately rained out, officials for the POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprint Series and Sheyenne Speedway are working to find a suitable reschedule date for 2020. If a date cannot be found this season the event will be rescheduled for 2021.
Labor Day weekend the Minn-Kota Lighting Sprints return to Greenbush Race Park for the annual two-day Labor Day special which wraps up the season at the premier home facility for the POWRi MKLS. Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th the POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints will once again race on the speedy Greenbush Race Park.
