Sprint Wars Next For Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series And Great Lakes Super Sprints

Bryan Hulbert – LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (May 3, 2021) Ready for another round against the Great Lakes Super Sprints presented by Engine Pro and ARP, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsport Network will battle it out at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich. on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8.

Along with the two-winged series fight for bragging rights, the weekend will also include a non-wing matchup between the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series and Great Lakes Traditional Sprints.

Last going head-to-head with the Michigan-based tour in 2019, the 41-car field was no match for Sam Hafertepe, Jr., who swept the weekend. Rounds four and five in the state of Michigan for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsport Network, the only other track to host the series was Hartford Speedway on June 3, 2016. The win went to Johnny Herrera.

Going into the weekend, the battle for the top of the standings is starting to tighten as Blake Hahn closed the margin to 10 points on J.J. Hickle, while third running, Matt Covington, brought himself within 12 points. Both drivers rolled out of I-96 Speedway in 2019 with two five finishes both nights. Seth Bergman’s return to full-time competition has been a quick one, as the Washington shoe sits fourth, with Canada’s Dylan Westbrook currently fifth. Looking to rebound from a shredded tire at Selinsgrove Speedway, Scott Bogucki sits sixth, with Devon Borden, Ryan Bickett, Colby Thornhill, and Travis Reber completing the top ten in tour standings.

Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8, open at 5:00 P.M. with racing on track at 8:00 P.M. (EDT). Each night is $25 for the grandstands with kids 10 and under free. Pits are $35 per night. I-96 Speedway is located between Lansing and Grand Rapids at 3823 W. Portland Rd. in Lake Odessa, Mich. Details on the facility can be found online at http://www.i96speedway.com or by phone at (616) 642-0555.

Friday’s A-Feature offers $3,000 to win, $400 to start with Saturday’s payout upped to $4,000 to win. Teams will draw for their Heat Race lineups between 5:00 P.M. and 5:30 P.M. (EDT) each night. Driver’s Meeting will take place five minutes after the draw is closed. Mufflers are not required at I-96 Speedway. Event rules and format are ASCS. Those rules can be found at https://www.ascsracing.com/series-info/rules.aspx.
