Vanderheiden Rebounds To His Best Finish Of The 2023 Season!
BRANDON, S.D. (July 17, 2023) Adding a pair of top five finishes to the season stats this past weekend, Cole Vanderheiden came within feet of winning his first A-Feature triumph at the famed Huset's Speedway on Sunday.
A rebound weekend for Cole, who just a week ago found himself buried in B-Features; the team went through the car and found that the car was out of sorts, along with the engine being slightly off on timing.
Bringing the reworked mount to Eagle Raceway on Saturday, Cole took the green fourth and slipped back in the early goings to eighth. Mounting an outside line charge, Cole raced back to fifth, where he would remain.
Facing a field of 31 at Huset's, the 316 Strategy Group / Copps Pizza Company No. 15v worked through the Heat Race to the seventh starting spot in the feature.
Working to third on Lap 11, Cole came up on the race for the lead in a matter of laps. Varying his line to that point, it was a top-side pass to second with two laps to run. Keeping to the cushion and in hot pursuit of Dan Carsrud for the lead, the No. 67 drifted wide off the final turn, forcing Vanderheiden to cross over in a near photo finish of 0.072-seconds at the line.
