Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (April 25, 2017) – Chase Johnson is excited to head home this weekend for a Sprint Car Challenge Tour event on his home turf.

Johnson will drive his family owned sprint car on Saturday at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., which is a short drive from his hometown of Penngrove.

“After driving to Bakersfield and Tulare the last couple of weeks I’m excited to have a short drive to a track this weekend,” he joked. “We have a lot of laps at Petaluma and the crowd is always great to me. I’m looking forward to being back in front of the home crowd and back in the family car for a race.”

Johnson, who claimed the 2012 track championship and who won two races at Petaluma Speedway last season, is coming off a solid outing at the Peter Murphy Classic last Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series.

Johnson guided the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned team to the fourth-quickest time in qualifying before placing fourth in a heat race to narrowly miss making the dash.

“We were rolling really well at the beginning of the night,” he said. “Timing in that well put us in a solid position going into the heat race, but the heat races are tough to lock into the dash. We weren’t able to get in the dash by finishing in the top three, but we were able to get into the A Main.”

Johnson lined up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“We had one red flag on the first lap,” he said. “We had a complete restart and after that the race went green to checkered. We were a little tight at the beginning, but the car was coming on strong at the end. At that point everyone was spread out so we didn’t have time to make a lot of passes. We needed some yellows to bunch everyone up. I don’t think the results show how fast we were.”

Johnson closed the night with a 12th-place finish.
