Bruce Jr. Scores Top Five at Dodge City with GoMuddy.com NSL 360 NCRA/NSL Region
Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 8, 2016) – Tony Bruce Jr. captured his first top-five finish of the season last Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.
Bruce Jr., who was driving for Danny King during the GoMuddy.com National Sprint League 360 NCRA/NSL Region event at the 3/8-mile oval, kicked off the night by advancing from fourth to second place during a heat race.
“I pretty much did everything on the first lap,” he said. “I got a good jump and was in a good place at the right time.”
That ranked Bruce Jr. fourth in overall points, which lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 20-lap main event.
“I got to third on the start because I was starting on the outside,” he said. “About halfway through I made a mistake in traffic and caught a lapped car at the wrong time and lost third. After that I got back in line and that was all. The race track was one lane around the top and hammer down. Any time you moved off the top it was tough to do anything. It’s tough to not race much all year and get in the car and expect to win, but I’ve always been accustomed to race as hard as I can.”
Bruce Jr. ended with a fourth-place result. He now has two top 10s in three winged sprint car races this season driving for King.
“I felt like we made some pretty good progress and had pretty good speed in the car,” Bruce Jr. said. “It was one of those times where the race track was predominant on the top and that was it. If we had started on the front row and got the jump we would have had a car capable of winning.”
Bruce Jr. is scheduled to return to action on May 27 at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan., and May 28 at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., with the GoMuddy.com National Sprint League 360 NCRA/NSL Region.
