POWRi WEST HEADING FOR MIDGET MAYHEM AT CREEK COUNTY AND PORT CITY

TULSA, OKLA. (April 24, 2019) – A thrilling doubleheader in “The 918” awaits the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League heading into their first standalone weekend of the 2019 season. Scheduled for Midget Mayhem on April 26 and April 27, the West Midgets will encounter Sapulpa’s Creek County Speedway on Friday night followed by a trip to Tulsa’s Port City Raceway on Saturday.

With four co-sanctioned shows along with the POWRi National Midgets and one rain out at I-44 Riverside Speedway in the books, the point standings still show national superstars such as Bell, Seavey, Wise, Klaasmeyer and Coons atop the charts, but that will change this weekend. Offering double points in both showings this weekend, the true POWRi West championship contenders are set to rise to the occasion.

Since 2016, the POWRi West Midgets have made five solo visits to Creek County with an average car count of 34.4. Collinsville, Oklahoma’s Tyler Thomas is the most recent winner with a Fall Fling triumph from last October over a stout 47-car group. The series missed out on the quarter-mile in 2017, but four appearances in 2016 were highlighted by two of Jason McDougal’s wins along with victories by Matt Sherrell and Alex Sewell.

Andrew Deal (July 2016) and Kory Schudy (May 2018) stole the only standalone West races at Port City over the past three years. However, the strong Oklahoma contingent stepped up and beat the POWRi National Midgets in all of the last three Turnpike Challenge events at the Tulsa 1/8th-mile. In 2016, it was Matt Sherrell and Jason McDougal topping Tanner Thorson both nights, while just one month ago it was Jonathan Beason edging Christopher Bell in an instant classic.

The front gates will open at 5:00 PM on Friday, April 26 at Creek County Speedway with hot laps slated for 7:00 PM and racing set to get underway at 7:30 PM. General admission is $15 with kids 10 & under getting in FREE.

On Saturday, April 27 at Port City Raceway, the action hits the track at 7:00 PM with general admission at $10, kids 6-12 & seniors at $6, and kids 5 & under along with veterans getting in FREE.
