FAIRBURY, LINCOLN, MACON TRIPLEHEADER ON TAP
BELLEVILLE, ILL. (August 13, 2019) – A central Illinois tripleheader awaits the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League this weekend as the season returns to form at three exciting “Illini State” facilities. It all begins on Thursday, August 15 with a trip to Fairbury American Legion Speedway followed by a Friday, August 16 visit to Lincoln Speedway and wrapped up by a Saturday, August 17 appearance at Macon Speedway.
With 16 races left on the docket, the chase for the championship remains wide open. Currently controlled by Jesse Colwell of Red Bluff, Calif., the driver of the Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports, JBL Audio, Bullet/Toyota No. 71 has garnered one win, nine top-five finishes and 15 top-ten results in 16 features to earn 4,240 points at the moment. Colwell holds the points lead ahead of Zach Daum (-330), Jake Neuman (-450), Ace McCarthy (-740) and Holley Hollan (-750).
Thursday’s trip to Fairbury American Legion Speedway will mark POWRi’s fourth appearance in league history at the Fairbury, Ill. quarter-mile. Previous victories at FALS have gone to Zach Daum in 2016, Tanner Thorson in 2017 and Tucker Klaasmeyer in 2018.
Friday’s visit to Lincoln Speedway serves as the 18th all-time appearance by the POWRi National Midgets at the Lincoln, Ill. quarter-mile. Multiple drivers such as Christopher Bell, Zach Daum, Tanner Thorson, and Danny Stratton have struck twice for victory at Lincoln, but nobody has matched Bryan Clauson’s record of three wins yet.
Saturday’s excursion to Macon Speedway counts as POWRi’s 40th appearance by the National Midgets at the “Mighty Macon” fifth-mile with the POWRi Engler Machine & Tool Outlaw Micro League also in attendance. Most recently, Jake Neuman of New Berlin, Ill. topped the July 27 showing, earning his first-ever score at the Macon, Ill. track. Looking at all-time wins, however, Brad Loyet’s six-piece is unmatchable even by Andrew Felker’s four wins or Bryan Clauson and Zach Daum’s three triumphs.
For fans unable to attend, Speed Shift TV will be offering a LIVE pay-per-view broadcast of all three nights. The $40/Month VIP subscription will grant you access to each race, but single-race packages are also available for purchase at www.speedshifttv.com.
On Thursday at Fairbury, gates will open at 2:00pm with hot laps scheduled for 6:00pm and racing to follow at 7:00pm. General admission is $20 for adults, kids 12 & under are FREE, and pit passes are $30.
