Three-Peat for Cannon McIntosh in POWRi Illinois SPEEDWeek Championship
Belleville, IL. (6/26/23) Cannon McIntosh would route the competition in the Land of Lincoln to capture the Eleventh Annual Max Papis Innovations Illinois SPEEDWeek with the POWRi National Midget League garnering a trio of feature victories while besting the next closest weekly points contender by over two-hundred points.
Setting the standard of excellence early in the four-day trek across Illinois, McIntosh would claim checkers in Charleston Speedway to start the journey on Thursday after recovering from a work-area visit and then driving through the field on the way to victory.
Winning again at Jacksonville Speedway on Friday, McIntosh would be forced to settle for a runner-up finish during the mid-way point of the week at Macon Speedway on Saturday as Thomas Meseraull would take the feature win.
Rebounding to emerge victorious at Lincoln Speedway to round out the week-long speed-fest, McIntosh would lead an overall total of forty-two laps while also advancing thirty-two positions in the four days of racing action. Also attaining a pair of heat race wins throughout POWRi SPEEDWeek, Cannon would capture a single quick-time award at Lincoln as well as earning the hard-charger for the same event.
“I don’t know what it is about tracks in Illinois right now but I seem to have really good speed at them, the team does a lot of work behind the scenes in prep and getting everything ready for me. To be able to get my third straight SPEEDWeek title is definitely something special,” said Cannon McIntosh in the championship ceremonies.
Showing consistent finishes at tracks across Illinois, Gavin Miller would finish the MPI POWRi Illinois SPEEDWeek in the runner-up positioning as Chance Crum rounded out the podium placements during the eleventh edition of the four-day quest of speed with forty-two total entries.
