Shipley Captures Top-Five Result During 305 Sprint Car Debut

Inside Line Promotions – LAS CRUCES, N.M. (May 31, 2017) – After a bout of bad luck, Joshua Shipley is extremely pleased to record a weekend of solid finishes at Southern New Mexico Speedway.

“We have a seven-week break from ASCS racing so we teamed up with Casey Minks with Minks Motorsports to run a 305 with the POWRi Lucas Oil 305 New Mexico Sprints Series,” he said. “We weren’t really sure what to expect since we’ve never run a 305 before.”

Shipley was pleasantly surprised throughout the weekend that began on Friday night, when he started on the pole of a heat race and finished second. That lined him up 11th in the A Main.

“The track was real dry so I knew that if I had patience and stayed out of trouble we’d be pretty good,” Shipley said. “I got up to fourth place in about six or seven laps. Then the track changed and I fell back to eighth place.”

The car was still maintaining good speed, which allowed Shipley to take the checkered in fifth place.

After making some adjustments for Saturday night, Shipley was almost a second faster in hot laps than the rest of the field.

“I started third in the heat race, but the engine stumbled on the start,” he said. “I had to get out of the gas so I settled into fourth and that’s where we finished.”

After starting 15th in the A Main, Shipley made his way through the field to fifth place when a caution came out.

“I checked my temperature gauge and it was rising quick,” he said. “The water pump belts broke off so I had to pull in and we finished 20th.”

While Saturday night didn’t yield another top five, Shipley and his team were happy about the speed they had all weekend and the results overall.

“We’ve finally got a bit of momentum heading our way,” he said. “That’s exactly what we’ve been needing.”

Shipley will return to action with the POWRi Lucas Oil 305 New Mexico Sprints on June 10 at Southern New Mexico Speedway.

Additionally, the POWRi Lucas Oil 305 New Mexico Sprints Series is having an All Star race on Saturday, June 24. Shipley has a chance to be in the race, but needs the help of his fans.
