Top-5 finish in Rockin' with the Stars at Smoky Mountain

After Mother Nature wiped out the first two attempts, Shane McDowell Racing visited I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.) on Friday evening the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals event. With time trials setting the grid for the $5,053-to-win A-Main, McDowell topped the 32-car field to lock onto the pole. After setting the pace for the first 22nd circuits, Dale lost the lead to Brandon Overton on lap 23 while maneuvering through lapped-traffic. He went on to finish third, trailing Overton and Michael Page to the checkers with Cory Hedgecock and Tyler Millwood rounding out the Top-5. (Michael Moats photo)

On Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) for the Southern All Star Series-sanctioned Rockin’ with the Stars, Dale secured his spot into the feature with the fastest lap overall in qualifying. After trying to dethrone early pace-setter Jensen Ford on a lap-14 restart, McDowell slipped back to a fourth-place finish when the checkered flag flew. He followed Ford, Ricky Weiss, and Cory Hedgecock across the line with Sam Seawright coming in fifth.

Dale is currently leading the latest Spring Nationals point standings.
