Payton Freeman and Brandon Kinzer Pick Up Let’s Get Dirty Autism Weekend Finale Wins at Boyd’s Speedway
RINGGOLD, GEORGIA (April 30, 2022)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series and the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series would conclude the Let’s Get Dirty Autism Weekend presented by Mountain View Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram, Will Kinzer Foundation for Autism Research, and John Schneider Studios at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA on Saturday evening. Payton Freeman of Commerce, GA would score the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series victory and Brandon Kinzer of Freeport, FL would capture the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series win.
Freeman’s victory would be the first-career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series win for the 19-year-old second-generation racer. Freeman’s entry is a Capital Race Car with a Cornett Race Engine sponsored by Freeman Plumbing, Dave Gordon Auto Supply, Madison County Auto Parts, Coltman Farms, Chatham and Son Tile, Shelton Trucking, Collins Signs, Rob Roberts Trucking, and McCallister Precision Marketing.
The win for the 44-year-old Kinzer would be his third career Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series victory in his MB Customs, Randy Clary Race Engines powered entry with sponsorship from Kinzer Drilling Company, Quality Natural Gas, Custom Suspensions, Will Kinzer Foundation for Autism Research, CASVA Angus Farms, Dirt Wrap, Sweet Victory Apparel, Shear Worx, Weststar Lubricants, and LauriesFund.org.
In the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series main event, Garrett Smith would take the lead at the start of the event, followed by Payton Freeman, Kenny Collins, Will Roland, and Dillon Tidmore. Sam Seawright would take fifth from Tidmore on lap three, with the caution waving one lap later for fourth place running Roland, who would slow in turn four with a flat left-rear tire. The restart would see Collins make a bold move and grab the lead exiting turn four past Smith and Freeman, with Freeman taking second and moving Smith back to third. Freeman would pressure Collins and take the top spot on lap six, with Seawright taking third from Smith on the same circuit. Stormy Scott would make his way into the top five and take the fourth position from Smith on lap nine. Freeman would work the top side of the track and started working lapped traffic on lap ten. The action would be slowed on lap fourteen when Carden Cochran would slow on the frontchute. The front five would remain the same on the restart, with Seawright pressuring Collins for second and would take the spot on lap fifteen. With Freeman still working the high side to perfection, he would encounter slower traffic on lap twenty. Seawright would close in on Freeman in traffic, but the caution would wave again on lap twenty-five when Collins would slow with a flat right-rear tire. The restart would not see a full lap scored as Dillon Crim would spin his machine in turn four. Freeman would get a great launch on the final restart and go unchallenged the remainder of the way to score the victory, with Seawright finishing second and Scott would come home third. Jaden Frame and Cameron Weaver would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Roland, Smith, Tidmore, Robby Mason, and Justin Cameron.
Jacob Hall would grab the lead at the start of the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series feature contest, trailed by Michael Asberry, Peyton Harlow, Lucas Lee, and Brandon Kinzer. Lee, Kinzer, and Harlow would go three-wide for position on lap two, with Kinzer taking the third spot on lap four. Asberry would begin to pressure Hall for the lead on lap five and would take the lead from Hall one tour later on lap six. Lee would chase down Hall and that duo would battle for the third position, with Lee taking the spot on lap ten. Kinzer, who passed Hall for second on lap seven, who pressure Asberry for the lead and snag the top position on lap twelve. Asberry would slow and spin with a flat right-rear tire on his entry one lap later on lap thirteen. The restart would see Kinzer maintain the lead, with Lee now second, Hall third, while Clayton Miller would be fourth and Harlow would run fifth. The front five would remain the same as the final caution of the race appeared on lap nineteen for a spin in turn one by Andy Ogle. The restart would again see the top five remain the same and Kinzer would take the checkered flag first, with Lee finishing second, and Hall completing the podium finishers in third. Miller and Harlow would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Ben Harmon, Jeff Hamby, Jamie Mosley, Skyler Douglas, and Tony Garber.
As part of the Let’s Get Dirty Autism Weekend, Boyd’s Speedway general manager Larry Dismukes would make a special presentation to Open Wheel Modified feature winner Brandon Kinzer as the track raised over $2,500 to contribute to the Will Kinzer Foundation for Autism Research.
