Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (July 31, 2017) – Travis Rilat produced a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend at Skagit Speedway during the Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals with the Northwest Challenge Series.
The doubleheader began on Friday with Rilat, who was driving for Richard Saumure, qualifying 14th quickest overall. That lined him up on the pole of a heat race, which he won to lock into the 14th starting position in the A Main.
“We didn’t time in as well as we would have hoped,” he said. “The top eight in qualifying who transferred through the heat race made the feature redraw so it was important to qualify in the top eight. Since we didn’t that put us behind going into the main event.”
Rilat maneuvered from 14th to a fifth-place result, which marked his seventh top five of the season.
“I had a great car that was maneuverable, which is important when you’re starting midpack,” he said. “I was able to work through the field. We closed in on fourth place, which was the final lock-in position to Saturday’s feature redraw, but just ran out of laps.”
The event wrapped up on Saturday when Rilat started the competition by timing in eighth quickest in qualifying. A fourth-place finish in a heat race locked him into the 10th starting position in the main event.
“The track was pretty racy and there was a lot of back and forth for positions,” he said. “We were able to gain a couple of spots before making a last-lap pass for seventh.”
Rilat capped the night with a seventh-place finish.
He and Saumure have now earned 21 top 10s in 30 races at Skagit Speedway since the start of 2013.
