26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (June 28, 2018) – Zachary Madrid pulled double duty Saturday night at Canyon Speedway Park’s Birthday Bash scoring his fourth San Tan Ford Desert Sprint Car Series win and his fifth IMCA Modified top-five finish of the year.

“We started the night out drawing pill 44 for the Sprint Car which lined us up sixth in the third heat,” said Madrid. “We got through traffic really fast and took the lead in about three laps, picking up the heat race win. Then I jumped in the Modified, we started inside the second row in the second heat, and I knew I needed to get the lead as fast as possible. I was able to do that in two laps and ran away with the heat win in the Mod as well.”

Madrid’s heat race wins would place him on the outside of the third row for the start of the San Tan Ford Desert Sprint Car Series feature and the inside of the third row to start the IMCA Modified feature.

“We made our typical changes to the Sprint Car and tried a bunch of new stuff on the Modified,” he explained. “The Sprint Car main was very slow and a little rough. We had to run the very bottom of the track, but I was able to use the yellows to my advantage.”

Madrid and Kyle Shipley would battle for the lead until lap 13 of the 20-lap feature.

“I eventually took over second and got a good run off turn two after a yellow, but I slipped up in turn three and Shipley took the lead back from me,” said Madrid. “I tucked back in line and followed until I had the right opportunity to take a shot at the lead. I eventually took over the position and led the rest of the way to pick up the win.”

Following the victory lane celebration, Madrid hurried back to his pit to make the final adjustments to the Modified before the 20-lap feature.

“I was able to take over third immediately and then drove around the outside of second to take over the position and began my chase to catch up to the leader,” he explained. “The track was very rough and slow around the bottom, I caught the leader with about five to go, and I tried different things to get a run on him but was not able to get far enough out of line to make a move. On the white flag lap, I went into turn three trying a new line to make a run, but as I went to come across to pass the leader, the third-place car stuck his nose in, so I had to stay put and that allowed him to take the position and we crossed the line in third.”

Madrid now has six wins, 11 top-five, and 23 top-ten finishes this season. He will be back in his Modified this weekend at Fairgrounds Speedway in Cortez, Colorado.

Zachary Madrid would like to thank American Flowtech, MDM Accounting, Arizona Differential, Sunoco Race Fuels, Martin Auto Museum, RJR, WSM Auctioneers, Madrid Motorsports, F. Susan McGinnis Attorney at Law, and Larry Shaw Race Cars for their continued support.
