CODY MCPHERSON DRIVES TO THRILLING FEATURE VICTORY IN PETE COSCO MEMORIAL AT HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY ON SUNDAY NIGHT

Cody McPherson of Saint Catharines, Ontario started 7th in Sunday night’s 40-lap Pete Cosco Memorial feature and had to fend off several strong competitors as well as brutal track conditions to earn his victory of the 2019 season in Race of Champions Dirt 602 Sportsman Modified Series competition.

McPherson worked his way around Greg Panunte of Saint Catharines, Ontario in the late stages of the race to claim the victory.

“We had to work for this one,” stated McPherson in victory lane. “I went backward, let people go, worked back forward to get the job done. It was a challenging race, but Pete Cosco was a special man and to honor him and his family caps off a great night. I’m happy I had the opportunity to race tonight and to be able to make the most of it.”

Panunte finished second after starting 10th, while Brad Rouse of Saint Catharines, Ontario, finished third and claimed his third and second consecutive Series championship.

“These aren’t easy to win,” offered Rouse in victory lane. “We had a tough go of it the last couple of weeks with some crashes and different problems. Tonight the motor ran flat, but got what we could and it was good enough for the championship. These are big deals and I’m proud of all my guys and the women that help us and let us do this to get here.”

Chad Chevalier of Port Colborne, Ontario finished fourth while Adam Leslie of Saint Catharines, Ontario finished fifth.

Rouse, McPherson and James Michael Friesen of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario won the qualifying races.
