PATRICK EMERLING SCORES HOMETOWN WIN IN “TRANSITOWNE 100” AT HOLLAND SPEEDWAY WITH RACE OF CHAMPIONS MODIFIED SERIES

Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y., captured a hard-fought and emotional victory in the Transitowne 100 on Saturday night at his home track, Holland Speedway, with the Race of Champions Modified Series.

Emerling battled throughout the race with Jake Lutz of Hamburg, N.Y., eventually taking the lead and holding off Lutz in a thrilling run to the checkered flag. The win marked the 25th career Race of Champions Series victory for the Western New York native.

“This was a great night for us,” said Emerling in victory lane. “With only one caution, it was about balancing tire management while keeping pace. There was a lot of clean, respectful racing. I’m grateful for the opportunity to drive this car and thankful to my crew for all of their hard work. Tonight was special.”

The field was brought to the green by George Skora III of Eden, N.Y., and Paulie Hartwig III of Galloway, N.J. Hartwig and Skora swapped the lead early before Austin Beers of Northampton, Pa., surged to the front. Beers held the point until Emerling made his move and controlled the final portion of the race.

Lutz crossed the line second, with current Series point leader Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., rounding out the podium in third. Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, N.Y., finished fourth, and Beers held on for fifth.

Hirschman, Hartwig, and Beers won the qualifying races earlier in the evening. Jankowiak recorded the fastest time in green-white-checker qualifying.
