Max Blair Too Tough To Tame In 6th Annual Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial at Dog Hollow Speedway

STRONGSTOWN, PA – Max Blair, of Centersville, took the lead from Shawn Claar and went on to claim the checkered flag in the 6th Annual Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial Saturday night at Dog Hollow Speedway. Blair becomes the first driver to repeat in the race going back to back. He won it in 2018 also. Chuck Dizzle made it three straight wins in the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinders. First time winners for the year were Ryan McAndrew (270cc Micros), Duke Davidson (AMSOIL Pure Stocks) and Mike Spinneweber (ULMS Super 6 Late Models).

Shawn Claar took the lead from his outside front row starting spot in the 30-lap ULMS Late Model feature. Claar out ran Max Blair into turn one. Claar extended his lead until he approached lapped traffic on lap 14. The following lap Blair made a bold move threading Claar and the lapped car to take the lead. Blair then took off extending his lead. Third place starter Mike Pegher worked his way into second on lap 20 and closed the gap when Blair got trapped behind three lapped cars. At the finish it was Blair taking the win, his second straight in the McGarvey Memorial. Pegher was second over Jared Miley, Shawn Claar, Alex Ferree, Mat Lux, Mike Wonderling, Jr., Kirk Baker, Mike Laughard and John Myers. Blair and Miley were qualifying heat winners. Blair also set fast time at 16.137.

The 270cc Micro Sprint feature saw Ryan McAndew, of Apollo, lead all 15 laps of the feature event. McAndrew went uncontested on his way to victory. The win was his first-ever at Dog Hollow Speedway. Following him at the finish was JT Horwat, Garth Fochler, Luke Hails, Noah Wirginis, Ivan Johnson and Austin Pasquerella. McAndrew won the heat also.

Brad Benton led all the laps but the won that counted in the 15-lap AMSOIL Pure Stock feature. Benton took off at the start building a good lead. Greg Blystone was second for two laps before Duke Davidson became runner up. Davidson caught Benton and the two put on a great race. On the final lap Davidson went to the inside in turns three and four in one final attempt. Contact was made and it was Davidson claiming his first win of the season. Benton held on for second ahead of Greg Blystone, Joe Kephart, Corey Jones, Dillon Smith, Tyler Blystone, Sam McAdams and Brian Savino. Benton won the lone heat.

In the ULMS Super 6 Late Models it was a three car battle for most of the race. Mike Spinneweber led Levi Spinneweber and Frank McFeaters as those three pulled away. Lap nine saw Mike and Levi make contact on the front stretch with Levi spinning. On the restart McFeaters was all over the #6 of Spinneweber but was not able to make the pass settling for second at the checker. Mike Spinneweber won with McFeaters, Curtis Stivason, Levi Spinneweber, Shane Spinneweber, Ed Dunkle, Craig Cummings, Matt Cajka and Jason Willard completing the top ten. McFeaters and Stivason were the heat winners.

The final feature event was the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding 4 Cylinders. Cody Young was looking for his first DHS victory and took the lead from his pole starting spot. Young held off Todd Davis then Brooks Kaufman for the first seven laps. Lap eight saw three-time winner Chuck Dizzle take up the chase of Young. Dizzle seemed to bide his time and passed Young with just three laps to go to claim his third straight feature win. Second through tenth were Cody Young, Dylan Young, Bill Fuchs, Mike Potter, Brooks Kaufman, Todd Davis, Jack Theys, Bill Eckenrode and Brad Lemonovich. Heat winners were Dizzle and Kaufman.

A huge fireworks display by Epic Pyrotechnics capped off the evening’s events the saw the racing over at 9:45.
