Tanner Holmes Dominates ISCS Speedweek Round #4 At Sunset
By Ben Deatherage
Banks, Oregon- The Interstate Sprint Car Series made the journey to Sunset Speedway Park on Thursday, August 15th. The “Banks Bullring” boasted a full twenty-car field of talent on the ¼-mile clay oval. Teams traveled from all over the state of Oregon, Washington, California, and Idaho.

Shane Forte set the tone early in the main event. The Junction City veteran paced the field for the first couple of laps before being overtaken by Kinzer Cox. Cox, of Cottage Grove, defended the coveted position as best he could but went back to second. But the pass would be negated due to a lap seven caution putting Kinzer back in the lead.

Shortly after the ensuing restart Cox again was passed and this time, he was unable to retrieve the position. Jacksonville teenager Tanner Holmes powered his way to the front to capture the lead on lap nine. Several cautions prevented heavy lapped traffic coming into the picture.

On each restart, Holmes managed to master them. Tanner led the remainder of the distance to score his third ISCS Speedweek victory of 2019. It puts him as the all-time winningest drivers in speedweek history and is level for the most wins with the series.

Kinzer Cox held on to second place at the checkered flag over Harrisburg’s Tyler Thompson, in third. The rest of the top five consisted of Ashleigh Johnson, from Ferndale, Washington, in fourth over fifth finishing Enrique Jamie, of Medford.

Qualifying was split into three separate groups. Tanner Holmes, Shane Forte, and Tyler Thompson were the fastest drivers in their respected groups. Holmes established a new track record with a time of 12.219 seconds. Winners in heat race competition were Kinzer Cox, Arlington, Washington’s Brett McGhie, and Tyrell Mead of Winston.

The Interstate Sprint Car Series “Week of Speed” will conclude this weekend at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington. The 3/8-mile facility will be in action on Friday, August 16th, and Saturday, the 17th. Both nights the Front Gates open at 5:30 PM with racing beginning at 7:00.
