ASCS Canyon Region Returns to The PAS on Saturday!

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (July 12, 2010) – After breaking ground less than two months ago with the first ASCS-sanctioned event in the State of California, the wingless forces of the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region make a return engagement at southern California’s Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night.

While Yuma, Arizona’s Mike Martin inked his name into the record books as the first ASCS feature winner in California with his May 22 triumph at the PAS, it is reigning series champion Charles Davis, Jr., of Buckeye, AZ, leading the way into Saturday’s card.

Piling up five wins through the opening nine events of the season with no finish lower than ninth, “Chargin’ Charles” has amassed a 146-point lead over Martin in the series title chase.

The battle for second is a tight one though, with Martin just three points ahead of R.J. Johnson, who added his second series win of the year with a Fourth of July weekend triumph at New Mexico’s Aztec Speedway.

Two-time series champion Jeremy Sherman of Surprise, AZ, is just 15 points behind Martin in fourth, with Peoria’s Josh Pelkey slipping to fifth in points after a rough Fourth of July weekend double.

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Canyon Region points includes Andrew Reinbold, Ronnie Clark, Brian Hosford, Dalten Gabbard and Stevie Sussex.

Perris Auto Speedway is located southeast of Riverside, CA, on I-215 to SR 215, then south to Ramona Expressway (Cajalco Road turn-off), then 2.6 miles east to Lake Perris Drive, then 0.2 miles north to Gate C. The pit gate 0.2 miles east of Lake Perris Drive. For more information, contact the track at 951-940-0134.

The ASCS Canyon Region is currently slated for 17 overall nights of competition in 2010, including 13 nights in Arizona, a two-night Fourth of July weekend in New Mexico and pair of trips to California’s Perris Auto Speedway.

In its 19th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing, the American Sprint Car Series brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
