Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Oct. 27, 2015) – Derek Hagar is prepared for this week’s 28th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals.

The marquee Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., begins on Wednesday with the Short Track Nationals Open. Hagar will then compete on Thursday during Short Track Nationals preliminary competition before Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale.

“It is the biggest weekend of the year,” he said. “We go into Short Track Nationals with high expectations. There will be a lot of good cars there. We have a good team behind us, good crew, good motors. It’s just up to me to get the job done.”

Hagar has advanced into the Saturday finale three times with a pair of 14th-place results as his best finish. This season he has earned four top-five finishes in five races at I-30 Speedway with a worst result of eighth place at the quarter-mile oval.

“We’ve had some good runs there,” he said. “We’ve run second and been close to a win. Hopefully we can cap that off Saturday night. As long as we have a good race track, we get a good pill draw and pass some cars, everything will fall into place.”

This weekend’s event also holds special meaning to Hagar because of its proximity to his hometown.

“We have a lot of fans and family that come to watch us so we have a lot of weight on our shoulders trying to impress everybody,” he said. “It’s a hard deal to make. There are so many cars and they’re all good cars. We’ll go out there with an open mind and try to put that thing in Victory Lane.”

Hagar enters the weekend with 15 podium finishes in his last 18 races.
