Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 25, 2018) – Alex Hill gained experience while misfortune halted promising runs during three nights of racing at the 8th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway.

Hill’s racing weekend began on Thursday with a third-place starting position in her Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com heat race.

“I was doing pretty well,” she said. “I was told that I was pulling away from the car behind me. But then there was a caution. After the restart I ran the bottom, but several cars got by me on the top. Then I moved up there and did okay after that, but it was too late to have a good finish.”

Hill ended seventh in the heat race before she finished 10th in a B Main.

“I just wasn’t able to get anything going and move forward in the B Main,” she said.

Friday night showed the most promise of the weekend for the 18-year-old.

“Our heat race went pretty well,” she said. “We started second and finished second to Sean McClelland. The track was a lot different on Friday than Thursday. It was really slick on Thursday and took rubber. It wasn’t as slick on Friday and more suited to what I like.”

Hill lined up seventh in a qualifier.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t do so well in the qualifier,” she said. “I got a bad start. There were a lot of tough competitors in the race and I dropped back a ways early. I got going pretty good later in the race, but it was too late to move up much and I finished 11th.”

Her result in the qualifier slotted her in the fourth starting position in a B Main.

“Another car and mine made contact on the first lap and I spun out so I had to restart the race at the rear in 12th,” she said. “When we got going again, I was rolling the bottom of the track pretty well and made it back to fifth at the finish. We just kind of ran out of laps. I think if it would have been a 15-lap race we would have had a good chance at getting the final transfer spot.”

Hill’s first lap of competition on Saturday set the tone for her final night of racing of the weekend when she started seventh in her qualifier.

“A guy tried going three-wide going into the first turn and ran over my wing,” she said. “The damage to my wing made my car too tight and it also damaged my steering arm. I kept racing, but we just weren’t competitive with the damage and finished 11th.”

Hill then started 10th in a B Main, her final race of the weekend.

“My car was pretty good,” she said. “We just started too far back. It was difficult to move forward and we finished ninth.”

With no racing this weekend, Hill will remain at college in California and enjoy a rare weekend without traveling across multiple time zones. Her next competition with be at the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals Oct. 5-6 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
