Inside Line Promotions – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (Nov. 27, 2018) – Jack Dover recorded a top-10 finish during his final event of the season, which was a long 19-hour drive from his shop in Nebraska.

Arizona Speedway hosted the 3rd annual Copper Classic last weekend with Dover making his debut on Friday night. He qualified 17th quickest, but maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race to garner the seventh starting position for the ASCS Southwest Region A Main.

“We weren’t good in qualifying both nights, but we raced our way up through there in the heat and didn’t have to run the B Main,” he said. “We missed the setup and gear a little bit in the feature. The car was pretty good. We could run wherever we wanted. We mainly missed the gear.”

Dover finished with an eighth-place run, which marked his 31st top 10 of the season.

He returned to the oval on Saturday, but went out last in time trials. Dover timed in 19th quickest overall, but once again a strong outing in his heat race of fifth to third place earned a lock-in position into the main event.

“We were second quickest out of everybody in hot laps, but we were the last car out in qualifying so that didn’t help,” he said. “The track got wider. We were trying to keep the car light and didn’t have enough fuel in it. Every time I’d go into the corner it’d sputter. We were behind the eight ball from then on. We went from fifth to third in the heat and we were pretty good, but then we had a fuel leak in the feature.”

Dover was forced to exit the main event early because of the problem.

“We were pretty excited for Saturday night because we learned some stuff after Friday,” he said. “I think we could have been a top-five car. I’m disappointed we had that fuel leak and didn’t have a shot at it, especially since it was such a long haul out there and back.”
