Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 10, 2019) – Jordon Mallett highlighted a trip home to Arkansas to race in the 32nd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires with an 18th-place finish during Saturday night’s finale at I-30 Speedway.

“With it being in our backyard we had no pressure and it was just a really enjoyable weekend,” he said. “It was great to be home and surrounded by family, friends and sponsors. While results weren’t great, it was an enjoyable and needed weekend.”

With 69 cars in the pits for the ASCS Mid-South Region event, Mallett began Friday night on the pole position of a heat race. He finished second and followed that by advancing from seventh to sixth during a qualifier. Mallett ended the night by finishing where he started – fifth – in a B Main on a track that took rubber.

“We weren’t off all night, but we just were not as good as the other guys,” he said. “It was a tough track to pass on all night and come the B Main it rubbered up. So we just kind of were riding around and got ourselves ready for Saturday.”

Saturday night’s event finale began with Mallett starting eighth in a heat race. He passed four cars to finish fourth and move on to a qualifier. Mallett started third in the qualifier and lost two spots to finish fifth.

For the second consecutive night Mallett was forced to race in a B Main to qualify for the feature. He started fourth and finished fourth, which was one position shy of a transfer. However, as a result of being in the top two in passing points throughout the weekend out of the drivers who didn’t make the A Main, Mallett earned a provisional into the back of the main event.

Unfortunately, his night ended early after he hit a rut on the track on Lap 3 and broke the Jacob’s Ladder on the car. His team attempted to make repairs during a Lap 7 red flag, but they couldn’t get it fixed in the work area and chose to return to their pit. Mallett was credited with an 18th-place finish, which is his 27th top-20 result of 2019.

“We tried a few different things for Saturday and we were definitely a lot better,” he said. “Luckily we had a lot of points and we got ourselves into the A Main. Knowing we had 41 laps to go I was just biding my time early and unfortunately we had something break and it just ruined our night. I think we had a top-10 car.”

Next up for the Greenbrier, Ark., native will be a return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action this Friday and Saturday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. With only six races remaining on the ASCS National Tour schedule, Mallett is hoping to have a good performance and cut into the 79-point deficit he has behind the eighth spot in the standings.

“We feel pretty secure about where we are at in points and I think there’s an opportunity to move forward,” he said. “I think we’ve been getting better and I’m hoping we can finish this thing out strong and have a good weekend.”
