Nine WISSOTA National Titles For 2022 Super Stock Champ Sabraski
2021 WISSOTA Super Stock Champion Shane Sabraski set out on his 2022 season just like he does every year – race a lot, run well, hopefully win races and let the chips fall as they may as far as points are concerned, but it took about 2 weeks into this past season for Shane to know that he was going to be in the hunt for his second straight WISSOTA Super Stock National Championship after he won features in 8 of his first 10 starts and by the end of the 2022 season, he amassed a staggering 35 Super Stock feature wins for the second year in a row during the 48 events he entered and led the national points from basically the start of the season right to the end when he secured his second consecutive Super Stock national title, which was his fourth title in the Supers and WISSOTA-leading ninth overall national championship during his hall of fame career
.
Sabraski, the 2012, 2013 and 2021 Super Stock National Champion, added the 2022 title to his resume - his ninth overall National Championship - which includes the 2019 Modified title, along with the 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2014 Midwest Modified top honors as well.
Along with Shane’s 35 Super Stock wins during the 2022 season, he ran off with 19 WISSOTA Modified victories and finished second in the final national championship chase for the second year in a row in the Modified division as well.
Sabraski’s #7a JMR Modified and Affordable Super Stock both carry sponsorship from West Metro Buick GMC. He is supported on and off the track by his wife Katie, son Mason and daughter Braelyn. His main help in the pits consists of crew chief Glen Majeski with help from crew members Mike, Todd, Jared, Chris and Derek.
The 2022 season was one of many victories for Sabraski, but not only did he win 54 feature races between the two cars this season, but he picked up many special victories including the Wisconsin Modified Nationals at the Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, WI; the Minnesota Modified Nationals at the Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, MN; the Labor Day Shootout at the Hibbing Raceway in Hibbing, MN; the Red Clay Classic at the ABC Raceway in Ashland, WI; the Race of Champions at the WISSOTA 100 at the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN; the Piston Cup at the Granite City Motor Plex in Sauk Rapids, MN; winning 5 of the 7 Fastlane Super Stock Series events and winning both nights of the Great Lakes Border Battle at Gondik Law as well.
Winning the Super Stock title in 2022 means as much as the other championships Sabraski has earned, with Shane stating ‘it’s neat to have 9 National Championships now, and I say it every year, but I just like racing a lot and the cards fall where they will.’
Sabraski’s ninth WISSOTA title came in his 23rd year behind the wheel. He started his career back in 2000 and competed in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division from 2000 to 2005 before he added a Modified to his arsenal in 2006. He ran the Mod and Midwest Mod regularly from ’06 throughout the 2010 seasons when he decided to get into Super Stock racing as well and ran three cars weekly from 2011 through 2016 before retiring from Midwest Modified racing at the start of the 2017 season, when he decided to focus on ‘just’ 2 cars and began racing the Modified and Super Stock as his primary rides.
At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Sabraski amassed 3348 points and was able to win the title by 51 markers over runner-up Dexton Koch when the final points were tallied.
As of today, Shane plans to continue to compete in the both the Modified and Super Stock divisions when the 2023 season rolls around and although he never starts out the season with plans to run for national points, but you can bet he will be in the hunt to win his 10th and maybe 11th national titles when next October nears.
Congrats!
The WISSOTA Promoters Association exists to benefit its member tracks to enhance safe, profitable and successful dirt track racing, through unified, cost-effective rules, policies and procedures, enacted within a democratic environment.
The WISSOTA Promoters Association was founded in 1981 by eight track promoters in Wisconsin and Minnesota, with intent to offer uniform rules for the promoters and drivers involved in the Late Model division. Soon, the group decided to do the same for the growing Modified division.
In 1984 a voluntary steering committee was formed to oversee the business aspects that developed and to guide the future of WISSOTA’s racing divisions. That steering committee evolved into a board of directors, and the non-profit racing organization became incorporated in 1986.
Promoters who join the organization become, in essence, part owners of the racing organization and are expected to contribute to its overall success. Each November, the WISSOTA annual meeting is held; the member promoters gather annually in this forum to discuss the future of the organization. Member promoters are given the opportunity to vote on all organizational policies and procedures as well as rules for competition in the various racing divisions. WISSOTA’s member promoters and racing associations have spent approximately 30 years of hard work at the annual meetings crafting unique rules for each of the divisions, which are known as WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Street Stocks, WISSOTA Mod Fours, WISSOTA Pure Stocks and WISSOTA Hornets.
