Ross Bailes tops Xtreme DIRTcar field at Lake View
Saturday afternoon saw Ross Bailes return to action at Lake View Motor Speedway (Lake View, S.C.) piloting the Billy Hicks Racing No. 79 Longhorn Chassis Late Model for the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series sanctioned contest. In a field of 26 cars, Bailes timed in ninth fastest overall in time trials before placing second in his heat behind Cla Knight. Receiving the pole position for the A-Main via the redraw, Ross made hard contact with early race-leader Matthew Nance after he got caught behind a slowing lapped car. With the pair earning their spots back due to the caution called for the lapped-car, Bailes outran Nance on the high-side late in the 40-lapper to capture his first win of the season and a $7,000 payday. His second series victory came ahead of Nance, Cla Knight, Dustin Mitchell, and Stewart Friesen. (Kevin Ritchie photo | Ritchie Photography)
1The following night at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) for the Frostbite 40, Ross secured his spot into the $5,000-to-win A-Main with an eight-lap heat race win. Unable to close the distance on fellow front-row starter Chris Madden, Bailes scored a runner-up finish behind Madden with Kyle Strickler, Adam Yarbrough, and Stewart Friesen rounding out the Top-5.
