Topless Outlaw Late Model Series
Seawright claims $5000 at Senoia Raceway
Senoia, GA (10-26-24) After 2 red flags that took out top contenders and a full field of battle tested race cars, Sam Seawright of Fort Payne, AL piloted his friend Evan Lancaster’s Late Model to his first ever Topless Outlaws win and pocketed $5,000 in the process at Senoia Raceway!
As the 44-lap feature took the green flag, led by fast qualifier Bobby Mills. The young Zebulon, Georgia driver would not complete a single lap as he was shuffled out of the lead as the field sped down the backstretch and suddenly his #32 machine was cross-ways in front of the 25-car field. He then slammed the inside wall causing extensive damage to his nose-piece, ending his night early.
On the re-start, Michael Page of Douglasville, GA moved up to the front row alongside Tyler Millwood of Kingston, GA. He wasted no time shooting to the point and would pull away from the field by nearly a straight-away until lap-20 when his brother, Mark Page of Douglasville tagged the outside wall in turn-one, climbed the wall and went airborne briefly before landing parallel to the track on top of the outside of turn-two causing a red flag that lasted several minutes as track crews removed his #19X machine from the track.
On this re-start Austin Horton of Whitesburg, GA began battling Millwood for second after starting fifth while Seawright passed both cars to take over second after he started seventh. Jordy Nipper of Gray, GA made his presence known in the top five after he started tenth.
On lap twenty-eight, Seawright took advantage of an opportunity to get by Michael Page as he was negotiating lapped traffic in turn-three and actually led lap twenty-nine.
Tragedy would strike once again as the leaders exited turn-two while a slowing Matthew Taylor of Fort Valley, GA was attempting to pull down to the low side of the track headed toward the pit entrance but with three and four-wide racing involving lapped cars and lead cars, a rush hour pile up occurred causing extensive damage to Michael Page's #18X as well as to Seawright, Horton and Nipper.
On the next re-start much of the field looked like a battle from Beyond the Thunder Dome as mangled machines gathered back up Dixie-Double File style with Page's damage the most significant as he tried to hang on to second as Seawright pulled away by five car-lenths.
On lap thirty-three Page slowed exiting turn two and much like the earlier caution/red flag he attempted to pull down out of the groove but was nailed in the rearend by Matt Dooley of Brooks, GA after he had been battling in the top ten. Both cars retired to the infield.
The final re-start saw Seawright once again pull away to a comfortable lead but the most intense battle was between Horton and Nipper who tagged the inside wall in turn-four as the trio headed to the checkered flag on lap 44, a number tribute to the father of track promoter Clint Smith.
Seawright won by 1.7 seconds over Horton with Nipper finishing third. Millwood finished fourth and Will Harrington of Hawkinsville, GA rounded out the top five after he started ninth.
Austin Neely of New Tazewell, Tenn. clinched the 2024 Topless Outlaws Championship with his tenth place finish.
Anthony White of Clinton, Tenn. endured an ill-handling race car all night and retired from the feature early but did finish second in the final point standings. Anthony White Jr. of Clinton clinched 3rd in the final standings and is also the 2024 Rookie of the Year!
Two-time series champion Chase King of Seymour, Tenn. earned the PPM Winner's Circle Podcast Hard Charger Award after he started 25th (taking a past champions provisional) and finished 13th.
