Fireworks, Double Features Saturday at Rescheduled “Battle of Plattsburgh”
Saturday night special to include massive fireworks show, twin features, Make-A-Wish fundraiser
PLATTSBURGH, NY – Airborne Park Speedway fans will get lots of extra bangs – and some booms – for their buck on Saturday night, July 11, at the “Battle of Plattsburgh” event. Rain on July 4 put a damper on the Independence Day event and a mammoth fireworks show, but the rescheduled and reshaped event has been expanded to include double feature races for all three weekly stock car racing divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.
The original 76-lap event for the J&S Steel Modified division has been replaced with twin 50-lap features, giving racing fans 100 total laps of open-wheel action and giving drivers two opportunities to win. Seven Modified feature races have produced seven different winners so far in 2015.
Plattsburgh’s Nick Heywood opened the season with a win and holds the point lead as chases after his fourth consecutive track championship. Greg Atkins rides second in the standings with outstanding rookie Danny Sullivan third, followed by feature winners Bucko Branham, Leon Gonyo, and Jason Durgan. Jayson Criss, Jamie LaFountain, and Mike Wells have also carried checkered flags this season.
Saturday will also see double features for the Key R-D Trailer Sales Renegade and Busch Beer Mini-Modified divisions. Hometown driver Jason McClatchie has a razor-thin, one-point lead on Richie Turner in the Renegades, and Chris LaVair of Gabriels tops Dale O’Neil in the Mini-Mods.
The “Battle of Plattsburgh” is sponsored by Unique eCigs, Egglefield Ford, Morrisonville Septic, High Peaks Dental, and Liquor & Wine Warehouse. The Carpenter family and Liquor & Wine Warehouse will host a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation at intermission to help grant the “wishes” of children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.
General admission for Saturday’s huge event is only $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under. Car loads will be admitted for just $20 after 8:00 p.m. Grandstand ticket stubs and pit area wristbands from the July 4 rainout will be honored.
