Quebec Ace, Bernier Headed to Airborne
PLATTSBURGH – One of the top 358-Modified drivers from the province of Quebec is calling Airborne Park Speedway his Saturday night home in 2018.
Steve Bernier of St-Hyacinthe won two times last year, while running just eight events. Being a part timer, Bernier never had a full established handicap, which forced him to charge from the rear of the field in feature events. On several occasions, Bernier set the fastest lap time of the night. In addition to the wins, he finished in the top five in seven of the eight starts.
“I plan on racing for the championship in 2018,” Bernier said. “I love the shape of the track as it fits my driving style.”
In addition to Airborne, he will be in competition at Autodrome Granby on Friday nights. Bernier also plans to attend some of the bigger shows on Sunday’s at the Cornwall Motor Speedway. Plans to compete with the Super DIRTcar Series at Airborne, Granby and Autodrome Drummond are set for his season.
Bernier will pilot his familiar number 25 with sponsorship from Bernier Excavation, R. Poirier Transport, T.B.R., J.M. Beauchamp, Ferme Lavallée, Bert Transmission, Camion Dubois, N.R.J., Carrière St-Dominique, Bicknell Racing Product, Premiertech, Soleno and RL engine.
“I’m looking forward to getting started,” Bernier said. “I received a warm welcome from everybody at Airborne last season.”
Airborne Park Speedway will kick off its sixty-fifth season on April 28 with a post time of 7 p.m. All five of Airborne’s regular racing divisions will be in action along with the DIRTcar Sportsman Series.
