Airborne Park Speedway Hall of Fame Coming In 2018

PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Park Speedway has begun organizing an Airborne Hall of Fame to remember the storied past. The opening of the Hall of Fame is slated for the spring of 2018.

The goal is to highlight the numerous people involved that have helped mold Airborne into what it is today. We also want to display various novelties that bear meaning to allow race fans to remember the past.

“I’m pretty excited to make this announcement,” Airborne Park Speedway Promoter John Walker said. “This is both an opportunity for long time fans to reminisce and for young race fans to learn about Airborne’s history.”

Airborne first opened in 1954 and there have been numerous stories, titles and accomplishments since its beginning. It is impossible to remember and capture every single moment of the track’s history, but it is important to recognize and remember those that have had a significant impact.

There is a great amount of undocumented history with Airborne and this will provide an opportunity to uncover some of the events. Many unknown stories and forgotten events will come along with this project as well.

The Champlain Valley Transportation Museum will have a room specifically for Airborne Park Speedway. The museum is currently closed for the season and will reopen on May 1. If you are interested in booking a tour, call (518) 566-7575.

As many would know, 64 years of racing means many drivers, teams, promoters and fans have witnessed plenty of historic events. We are currently able to remember the past with stories, replica cars and cars that have been preserved from the early years.

With that, we ask for help from the Airborne community. Anyone that has Airborne memorabilia that would be willing to allow us to borrow, keep or copy for the room should contact the track at (518) 561-3208. We will consider any items that you may have.

Stay tuned to airborneparkspeedway.com for more details and announcements about this project. You can also follow us on Facebook at Airborne Park Speedway for updates.
