Airborne returns with Saturday night special; Sportsman take center stage with vintage cars and pro stocks

PLATTSBURGH, NY.-- Airborne Park Speedway returns to racing action this Saturday night, June 15 with “topless” J&S Steel Sportsman, all weekly classes, plus the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series , Mod Lites and the first pro stock race of 2024.
Plattsburgh’s Nick Heywood, fresh off a win on May 30, leads the 30+ car field of J&S Steel Sportsman through the gates as the points leader. Bucko Branham trails him by just two markers, eyeing his first win of 2024. Donovan Lussier is 3rd in the standings with fellow 2024 winner Fire Swamp tied with Joey Scarborough for 4th position. Travis Bruno is 6th in the standings and finished runner-up to Heywood last time out. Tanner Forbes, Michael Wright, Codie Aubin and Vince Quenneville, Jr., round out the top-10. Swamp, Scarborough and Quenneville are all in contention for the $10,000 total prize money that will be awarded to any driver who can win the sportsman title at both Airborne Park and Devil’s Bowl. This week, fans will get a chance to watch the drivers go to work, as the removal of roofs will give fans a better look at how the drivers work the wheel around the big half-mile.
Shawn Duquette leads the 9th State Cannabis Renegade points by two over his Morrisonville neighbor Tylor Terry. Terry has claimed two wins on the year with Nate Guay and Josh Terry each grabbing one checkered flag as well. Guay is 3rd in the points, just four back of the lead. Billy Thwaits and Tyler Irwin are 4th and 5th, respectively.
Rick Doner leads the points in the Moore Recycling Mini Stock class by three points over Steven Bresette. Ryan Seneal, Speedy Bresette and Josh LaPorte, Jr., make up the top-five separated by only 26 points. Steven Bresette and Speedy Bresette have both claimed wins this year in the A-main, along with Senecal Jake Fountain and Nick Harnden. B-mains have been won by Chuck Mooney, Jason Bradley and Josh Blake.
The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified series makes it’s only stop of 2024 at Airborne Saturday. In 2023, Jack Miller won the Modified class feature. Cliff Haslun, George Palmer, Nathan MacFadden and Frank Hoard, Jr., all collected wins. This Saturday, the cars of the past will all get a complete program with heats and features.
Pro stocks will have their first race 2024 this Saturday, bringing in some added, full-fendered flair. Regular Renegade drivers Zack Daniels and Billy Thwaits are both expected to run, along with Russell Allogio, Kyle Hoard, several of the Mohawk International Speedway drivers, as well as drivers from other surrounding tracks.
The Be Cool Heating and Air Conditioning 358 Modifieds will have the week off. Tim Fuller leads the points by four over Mike Mahaney, Steve Bernier, Chris Raabe and Felix Roy.
Racing begins at 6pm this Saturday. General admission is $15, kids 12 and under are free. Pit passes are $28 for members and $38 for non-members. Racing at Airborne Park Speedway is powered by New England Ford Dealers LIVE on dirttrackdigest.tv for $24.99.
