Elegance Coating Championship Weekend at Airborne Park set for September 28, 29
PLATTSBURGH, Ny. – The 2024 racing season at Airborne Park Speedway is coming to a close. With the final installment of “Thursday Night Thunder” on Thursday, September 19 crowning Mike Mahaney as the Champion of the Be Cool Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration 358 Modifieds, the other three regular divisions must still reach the end of the road.
September 27, 28 and 29 at Airborne Park Speedway, Elegance Coating presents Championship Weekend, a three-night party and racing extravaganza in the heart of the North Country!
Champions will be crowned in the J&S Steel Sportsman, 9th State Cannabis Renegades and Moore Recycling Mini Stocks, but that isn’t all. The weekend will also feature Pro Stocks, Crown Vics, 500cc Mini Sprints, Limited Sportsman and a 50-lap enduro!
It all kicks off on Friday night with open practice for all divisions at 7PM. Pit admission will be $20, grandstands will be free.
Saturday, a more-than-full slate of racing gets started at 2PM. The J&S Steel Sportsman non-winner’s race will commence, a 25-lap, $400-to-win showdown for any driver who has not won a race in the sportsman modifieds (or above division such as 358 or big-block modified) at any track in 2024, providing additional track time to competitors ahead of Sunday’s Championship 100.
The sportsman will be joined by the full-fendered pro stocks, who will race for a guaranteed $750 to win. If 20 or more pro stocks enter, the winner’s share will be increased to $1,000. The final points program for the Moore Recycling Mini Stocks will race 20 laps for $250 to win, paying full A-main points, giving all the mini stock drivers a chance at one last A-main before the year ends. The limited sportsman will also race Saturday, 25 laps with $500 going to the winner. Heats for the 9th State Cannabis Renegades will also be on the jam-packed Saturday card with their feature on Sunday.
In an exciting, one-night-only appearance at Airborne Park in 2024, the 9th State Cannabis Crown Vic cars from Devil’s Bowl Speedway will be in action Saturday, putting on a 15-lap, $200-to-win feature, along with the 500cc Mini Sprints, who will race Saturday and Sunday with a format to be determined, with the possibility of the popular segment-race format from Devil’s Bowl being utilized.
Saturday’s nightcap will be the second Chris Frennier Motorsports Enduro of Airborne Park’s 2024 season after a 30-minute open practice for the sportsman only. The wild-and-crazy action will be 50 laps with a guaranteed $750 winner’s share. If the enduro garners more than 25 cars, it will pay $1,000 to win. Following the racing Saturday night will be a chicken barbecue with music and fireworks.
Sunday’s racing will also get started at 2PM with a complete, one-day show for the J&S Steel Sportsman Championship 100 with time trials, heat races and consolation rounds. Sportsman teams are not required to be in attendance Saturday to race Sunday.
Sunday’s 9th State Cannabis Renegade Championship Feature will be 40 laps, paying $500 to win. Sunday will also feature a show up-points race for the Moore Recycling Mini Stocks, a home-track rules program, allowing mini stocks from all over the region to compete Sunday for $250 to win.
The pit gates will open at 11AM on Saturday and Sunday, with the grandstands open at 12:30PM. Drivers’ meetings will take place on both days around 1PM with hot laps to follow.
General admission for the entire weekend is just $25, good for both days of racing. Kids 12 and under will get in free. Member and non-member pit passes are both $45, good for both days, again. Dry camping is available for $25 for the entire weekend. Full hook-up camping spots have limited availability and are $40/per day. The camping lot will open at 3PM Friday afternoon.
