Hogge, Kniss, Foulger, Wagner and Hannagan Win Soares Memorial At Antioch Speedway

Antioch, CA...July 20...Bobby Hogge IV won the 25 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the Ninth Annual Soares Memorial race and the second win of the season for the two-time NASCAR Pacific Coast Regional champion. Hogge is the all-time Main Event win leader at the track, and this was his 78th career victory.

Reno, Nevada's Katelynn Robertson and State point leader Jacob Mallet Jr of Oakley shared the front for the feature race, and Mallet led early. Hogge worked his way from the third row to battle Mallet for several laps before taking over. New point leader Kellen Chadwick of Oakley and reigning champion Troy Foulger of Oakley also made their way to the front and took up pursuit of the flying Hogge. However, this was Hogge's night to shine as he brought it home to victory ahead of Chadwick, Foulger, Robertson and reigning State! champion Andrew Pearce of Oakley.

Buddy Kniss of Oakley won the 25 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. This was the first win in this division for the 2019 IMCA Modified champion. Buddy recently finished second in the Wild West IMCA Speedweek Series in Oregon.

Joseph Pato of Antioch and heat race winner Nick Caughman Jr of Pinole had the front row for the feature race, and the race was destined to go without a yellow flag. Pato bolted into the lead over Caughman at the start and Kniss was quickly into third. A low move in the second turn of the fourth lap put Kniss into second, and he set his sights on Pato, who had built a decent lead. Pato was behind slower traffic by the 12th circuit, and Kniss used a low pass in Turn 2 of the 16th lap as they negotiated traffic to gain the lead. Point leader Kenny Shrader of Pacheco found his way into second on Lap 19, and Kniss brought it home to victory ahead of Shrader, Pato, Dylan Connelly of Antioch and Trevor Clymens of Brentwood.

Troy Foulger of Oakley won the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. This was the reigning champion's first win in this division this year, and it followed his eight lap heat race victory. It was also the 71st career win for him at the track as he is fifth on the all-time list.

Foulger gridded last in the feature race and managed to get by point leader Jason Jennings of Pittsburg and championship contender Jason Robles of Rio Vista, who finished second and third, respectively. State point leader Scott Foster of Oakley finished fourth, followed by Mitch Machado of Rohnert Park.

Danny Wagner of Bay Point won the 20 lap Dwarf Car Main Event. This was his 37th Dwarf Car win at Antioch in his career and it was also the first visit of the season for the reigning South Bay Dwarf Car champion.

Ellie Russo of Bay Point starred on the front and bolted into the lead with Wagner moving into second very quickly. Russo and Wagner engaged in several laps of side-by-side racing before Wagner made a Turn 2 pass to take over on Lap 12. Russo had her hands full with Marek Pipe of Greeley, Colorado. Pipe moved into second and held the spot until the final lap when David Michael Rosa of Antioch and Russo both got my in Turn 2. Wagner crossed the line ahead of Rosa and Russo, but Rosa was disqualified in post-race tech, giving second to Russo ahead of Pipe, Sean Catucci of Brentwood and Tommie Piantanida of Bethel Island.

Joel Hannagan of San Jose won the 15 lap Hardtop Main Event. This was the third win of the season for the reigning champion aboard the Doug Braudrick owned Junkyard Dog Hardtop .

Hannagan was challenged by Merced Sportsman point leader Mike Gillard in the six lap heat race before Gillard finished second to him. Unfortunately for Gillard, he had problems in the feature race. Fellow Merced Sportsman star Dexter Long of Ballico took up pursuit of Hannagan in the Main Event, but Hannagan proved too fast to overcome as he sped home to victory. Long settled for second, followed by Don Slaney of Martinez, Joe Shenefield of Roseville and Gillard.

Racing resumes next Saturday night with the final appearance of the Hunt Wingless Spec Sprint Series. It's backpack night, and the group will be giving away backpacks with school supplies for the kids. Also competing will be the Pacific Coast Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Modifieds, WMR Midgets and Mini Stocks. For further information, go to www.raceantiochspeedway.com.
