NAPA Fireworks Spectacular, Dan Grams Memorial
Trevor Serbus won his 3rd straight Dan Grams Memorial IMCA RaceSaver Sprint feature during the NAPA Fireworks Spectacular Night at the Arlington Raceway on July 12th. Brandon Allen led the first lap of the race from his pole position start, a caution flag was thrown when the 24r spun around coming out of turn #4. When the field relined and restarted Serbus took the high side of the track and gained several positions to take the lead as he sailed around the track and had a commanding lead. Behind him Brett Allen and Brandon Allen battled for the 2nd spot and another caution came out on lap 6 for a spinning car. Brett had shuffled back to 7th place on the restart but was soon in second place trying to catch Serbus. Another yellow the following lap came out when Jeremy Snow got too high and went off the track. He was able to restart. With only one lap to go in the race, Bill Johnson got under Brett Allen and gained a spot to take the 2nd place. Allen finished in 3rd and Mike Stien took 4th. Zach Glaser picked up extra money as he won the hardcharger award by passing 13 cars and also picking up the fire moving inferno suppressant from Johnson Racing. Matt Johnson won the hardluck award as he pulled into the infield
Ryan Grochow led the first 7 laps of the B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature, there was a first lap caution when an infield tire got hit in turn #4 and rolled down the front stretch. Grochow maintained his position through the restart with Dakota Robinson and Brent Uecker challenging. Uecker powered his ford engine and got around hi on lap 7 to take the lead. Two laps later Charlie Rustman found grip on the track and also got around Grochow but the following lap Grochow took it back. On lap 17 a caution was thrown when Andrea McCain spun off the track in turn #2 and landed next to the outside wall. The cars were tight after relining up and Tim Pessek got a tap from behind sending his car toward the infield and hitting a tire, he went airborne rolling over. He was ok but his car sustained a lot of body damage and he was out of the race. That gave Curt Lund the opportunity he had been waiting for, he had started deep in the field and lap by lap was making progress forward and was able to get by Uecker and take over the lead. As the white flag was displayed, Dan Mackenthun also got around Uecker but couldn’t catch Lund and settled for 2nd. Uecker finished 3rd ahead of Grochow.
Ben Davis had a great showing in the Jack Pines Resort IMCA Hobby class as he took the lead from the 2nd row on lap 2 in the flag to flag race. Hardcharging Cory Probst was moving forward quick from his 9th place start and by lap 6 was challenging Davis. On the s10th lap the two were side by side and Davis pushed a bit in turn #2 opening the door for Probst to get by him and lead the remaining laps to win. Davis took 2nd and Jordan Robinson took 3rd.
Alan Lahr led the entire Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact race except the one that counted as Gary Schumacher came from 5th place on the last lap and pushed Lahr up the track enabling him to get by him and take the lead and win. Lahr took 2nd and Dale Gatton took 3rd.
Dustin Theuringer led lap 1 of the Olson Snowplowing & Lawn Care Outlaw Hobby feature but a caution came out right away for the spinning cars of Fred Heidecker and Zach Wisch in turn #1. On the restart, Rod Manthey took over the top spot with Jesse Anderson following him. By lap 5 Garett Ucker had command of the race as he motored around Anderson. On lap 13 another caution came out for the 24 of Craig Groebner, he spun in turn #4 and hit a tire. Kris Flewelling took advantage of the restart as he got around Manthey. Uecker had a battle until the end but came out the winner with Anderson in 2nd and Flewelling taking 3rd ahead of Manthey.
A first lap caution in the Arlington State Bank IMCA Northern Sport Modified feature sent the cars of Jeff Carter and Scott Koepp to the work area and Jeff Lloyd to the rear of the field. At the restart, Ben Enter took the lead with Cole Hesse following him along with Eric Larson. A yellow came out when Joshua Pettis had troubles as a tire got hit in turn #2 and popped up in the race groove taking him out of the race. A few laps later another yellow was thrown when the hood flew off of Larson’s car in turn #3. That gave way for Broddy Enter and Ben Reierson to hold the first two positions. The two battled the remaining 5 laps but it was Broddy Enter who saw the checkered first. Reierson took 2nd and Josh Appel took 3rd place.
There was only one caution during the Ottomotive Tire & Repair IMCA Modified feature and that was for Jason Schroeder on lap 5 as he spun, he restarted at the rear of the field. Then the race was all Trent Loverude taking the lead with Dan Menk following him the distance trying to over power but could not get by him and settled for 2nd ahead of Clint Hatlestad.
