Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (Aug. 2, 2016) – Last weekend’s performance was exactly what Dominic Scelzi needed.

Scelzi and his Roth Motorsports backed team returned to a pair of tracks in Ohio for the second time and the results improved immensely.

“It was huge,” he said. “We changed a lot of stuff around and went back to square one. We started working on ourselves instead of where we needed to finish. We worked on what it’d take to make me comfortable. We wanted to work on our own program and didn’t have expectations for the weekend.”

The action began last Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, where Scelzi qualified 13th quickest overall and seventh in his group after a rain storm delayed the action.

“Without having hot laps it was tough for us to time in strong,” he said. “The track was really hooked up in the heat race because of the rain, too.”

Scelzi placed seventh in the heat race to line up on the outside of the ninth row for the main event.

“In the main event the track got slick through the middle with a huge curb,” he said. “We got a lot of cars in the first six laps because there were a couple of yellows. Everyone was bunched up and working the bottom and middle. I was able to make the top work early. From Lap 7 to 30 it went caution-free.”

Scelzi maneuvered from 18th to earn a sixth-place finish. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/TBiBmov5i4U.

“We were still strong, but the guys in front of me were spread out,” he said. “We were the fastest car on the track in the closing laps. I would have loved to see a late yellow.”

Scelzi took that momentum into an event at Wayne County Speedway on Saturday.

“We were the third-to-last car in qualifying and we qualified second overall and fastest in our group,” he said. “Then we were able to go from fourth to first to win our heat race. It was a definite confidence booster.”

The strong start to the night continued in the main event after Scelzi drew the No. 6 during the redraw to line up on the outside of the third row.

“I was running in fifth and someone broke,” he said. “That got us a restart and we were able to jump into third. Danny Smith was in front of us and he was fast enough where we couldn’t get around him. Fortunately, we were able to slide him on the last lap to run second. I wish I could have got around him sooner because I think I might have had something for the leader.”

Scelzi’s runner-up result was his best finish of the season. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/35JOMVIyl5s.

He will return to action this Saturday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, for the Freedom 40.

“I’m really excited to get back to Atomic,” he said. “It’s an awesome race track. I’m hoping we can have another strong outing in Ohio.”
