Andrews Produces Podium at Butler Motor Speedway After Gear Failure Costs Him Attica Championship

Inside Line Promotions – QUINCY, Mich. (Sept. 12, 2019) – Chris Andrews nearly scored the Attica Raceway Park track title during his first year of driving the Mackey Motorsports 410ci winged sprint car.

Unfortunately, a broken rear-end gear with just three laps to go in the championship feature on Aug. 23 cost him the championship at the oval in Attica, Ohio.

“That was very heartbreaking,” he said. “We went into championship night with confidence and it started so well with fast time, we won our heat from fourth and we went from sixth to second right away in the feature. I was saving something for the end and then I felt something and quickly pulled it out of gear. It happens, but we had a shot at the win and the championship.”

The team returned to action last Saturday at Butler Motor Speedway, where Andrews scored another podium finish.

“I don’t have a lot of laps at Butler,” he said. “We came from seventh to finish third behind two drivers who have a lot of experience at that track so I think we did okay.

“I don’t know if the Mackey’s want to run any more this year. I know they really wanted that Attica championship and that was so very disappointing for the entire team.”

Andrews said he is talking with another team to possibly run a handful of shows this year.

“We ran great all year,” he said. “We didn’t tear anything up. Heck, we finished with the same top wing and front wing. We will go after it again in 2020 with the Mackey’s and hopefully race a little more so I can get better.

“At the start of the year I didn’t even know what I was going to race. I got hooked up with the Mackey team and we were fast every night. We were right there every time we unloaded. Even though we didn’t get the Attica
championship we tried our damnedest all season at every race. I can’t thank Ken and Duane enough for giving me the opportunity to win races.”

Andrews, a two-time Attica Raceway Park champion, finished third in the track’s 2019 standings.
