IT WAS A “BIG ONE” AT AUTO CITY
It came off like it was planned all year....two great local tracks teamed up for a spectacular night of racing on Friday, August 16th as Auto City Speedway hosted "The Big One XI" presented by Dixie Motor Speedway. The action featured the Mid-Michigan Toyota Dealers Draper 125 for ARCA CRA Super Series cars and the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints.  Fans were treated to an autograph session and some thrilling competition.
Travis Braden traveled all the way from Wheeling, WV to set fast time for the CRA Super Cars with a 15.302. In the 125-lap main event, Cody Coughlin put the JEGS car into the lead and held it until lap 32 as Braden, coming from his 6th starting spot, took over the top spot. But the action was far from over as Coughlin and Brandon Hermiller took turns spinning each other out vying for the second spot, resulting in a black flag for Hermiller. Braden would only see the action from his rear view mirror however as he held off a host of challenges to take the win. Ohio's Ali Kern was in the mix all race long as she finished a strong second. Brandon Oakley, Jordan Sims and Kenny Tweedy rounded out the top 5.
A new track record was set in the Super Sprints as Jason Blonde ran a scorching lap of 12.88.  Heat race winners were Hank Lower, Kevin Feeney and Jim Swain.  The two top qualifiers, Blonde and Feeney, were taken out of the 30-lap feature  on a first lap crash.  Lower took the early lead and Hurryin' Hank led the first 6 laps until his mount suffered a flat on a restart in the caution-filled affair.  Aaron Pearce took over the point and stayed ahead until lap 12 when Cody Hoover took the lead.  The Ortonville native pulled away to claim his very first Super Sprint feature win.  Pearce held on to second followed by Tim Cox, Joe Swanson and Bill Tyler.
Lonnie Saumier, Jr. Led time trials for the Bombers with a 16.47.  Josh Oliver and Cam Hiltz took heat race wins.  Jeremy Johnson led the first lap of the 25-lap feature until Duane Damon got by.  On lap 7 Saumier took over and never looked back to take the win.  In the process, Saumier also locked up the Dixie Motor Speedway Bomber Championship. Jake Thompson, behind the wheel of the Mosier's #7m to take second while Andrew Burton, Scott Beach and Damon rounded out the top 5.
An 18-car field took the green flag to start the Mike's Auto Parts Figure-8.  Duane Damon jumped out in front, but two laps later rookie Adam Rhodes grabbed the lead.   Defending track champion Chad Lamson has been on a tear all season, and on the final lap, Lamson slid underneath Rhodes in turn one to steal the victory.  Rhodes held on to second followed by Chris Wilbur, Andrew Burton and Gerald Persails, Jr.
This Saturday, August 24thAuto City will run the annual Mudslinger for the Outlaw Super Late Models.  This year the race will be extra special as the 150-lapper will honor late track owner Jack Doering.  Dixie has one event remaining on the schedule which will be hosted by Auto City....
