Another night of racing is in the books as last Saturday, it was an all racing event.
Mother Nature did make it a bit warm for the drivers, but all in all, it was a good night for racing. Tonight the drivers ‘pulled numbers’ for their starting positions instead of the normal qualifying.
The night started out with the new series, the “City 6 Cylinders” and after the 10 laps were completed, it was Silas Mccaslin in his #12 getting the win followed by Cienna Snover (#32) and Emily Clayton (#2).
The Herald Pure Stock 8 lap heat race was next and it was Tim Kirby (#81) crossing the finish line first.
Now up was the Muffler Man All American Truck series 8 lap heat races and it was Josh Delong (#067) taking the first heat with Paul Rigda III (#43) winning the second heat.
The Modifieds were on the schedule tonight and had two 8 lap heat as well. It seemed like it was the night for lucky #7’s as David Mcmanus (#7) took the win in the first heat and Josh Ware (#7w) in the second heat.
The Herald Pure Stock 30 lap feature was now up. Jim Hardin (#25h) and John Puckett (#51) led them to the green flag. As the pace started to increase, it was the top two in points going at it, Bruce Dunton Jr. (#19) and Michael Hayes (#12), who was driving Amanda Clayton’s car after Hayes lost a motor in hot laps.
A caution had to be displayed as first timer this year, Hunter Doutre (#73) ended up losing a wheel. At the end of the 30 laps, it was Dunton Jr., Hayes and Hardin respectfully.
The 35 lap Modified feature was next and it was Jason Congdon (#4c) and Scott Lamp (#2) bringing them to the green. Congdon did get an early lead as the field battled it out behind him for position. Lamp ended up getting by Congdon and led for a good amount of laps. There were a few yellows throughout the race which shook things up a bit, but when it was all said and done, it was Barbeau, Michigan’s Josh Ware (#7w) getting the win followed by Mcmanus and Lamp. A side note, Ware had lost a motor racing the night before, but ended up having one loaned to him by Dave Christensen, which they installed during the day Saturday.
The Muffler Man All American Truck 30 lap feature was ready and Randy Clayton Jr. (#25) and Jim Hardin (#25h) led them around to the green flag. Paul Rigda (#43) jumped out to an early lead, but did end up having a good battle with Josh Delong (#067) going side by side with Delong on the outside and Rigda hugging the bottom. On lap 15, Delong did make the move to get to the inside of Rigda and took the lead without looking back. Delong got the win followed by Rigda and Jason Grissom (#224).
The Auto City Figure 8 was the last race of the night and at the drop of the green it was Paul Rigda leading the way. Jeff West (3w), who won this race last time out, worked his way past Rigda and looked to be the favorite to make it two in a row. As he stretched out his lead and started to lap some of the field, he got caught up with the #006 of Ken Mcnarney which took them both hard into the turn one wall taking them both out of competition. The red flag was thrown to get their vehicles off the track and once back to green, it was Paul Rigda III (#43) getting his first Figure 8 win.
Next Saturday night, July 24th the Street Stocks will be back in action as we honor Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer, Jay Woolworth with a “Jay 50”. Fifty laps of racing for the street stocks and other classes will be on the schedule as well.
All the action starts at 7:00pm. Check out all the details on upcoming events at www.autocityspeedway.com and “We’ll See You at the City”.
