Randy Hannagan Returns to Australia to Run Notable Events

January 15, 2015-- As the old phrase goes “Elvis has left the building,” only this time Randy Hannagan has left the States. This morning he was bound for Australia to join Scott Motorsports for three notable events – The President’s Cup, King’s Challenge and the 43rd running of The Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.

“I am very excited to join forces with Ray Scott in Australia,” Hannagan stated. “It is always great to get back into the car during the winter months. Hopefully we can have a successful series of races in Australia. Then when I return, I will be ready to head to Florida to begin the 2015 season in the States.”

The 2015 edition of the President’s Cup is set for Wednesday, January 21 at Avalon Raceway in Lara, Victoria, Australia. A star-studded field of over 50 drivers is currently entered, including fellow Americans Christopher Bell, Jac Haudenschild, Danny Holtgraver, Terry McCarl, Daryn Pittman, Jason Sides and Brad Sweet, along with perennial Australia contenders such as Brooke Tatnell, Ian Madsen and James McFarland.

The King’s Challenge will hit the track on Thursday, January 22 at Borderline Speedway in Mt. Gambier in Mt. Gambier, South Australia. Over 40 drivers are currently entered for the event, which was last won by an American in 2012. The King’s Challenger has been contested 18 times, dating back to 1995, and an American driver has been victorious in nine of those races.

The Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, the biggest sprint car race in Australia, is set for Friday, January 23, Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25 at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia. With over 100 drivers currently entered, the field will be split, with half running a qualifying night on Friday, January 23 and the other half on Saturday, January 24. These two qualifying nights will set the grid for the finale on Sunday, January 25. Hannagan is scheduled to compete on the second qualifying night, Saturday, January 24.

Hannagan, the winner of the 1999 Australia/America Challenge Cup, will be piloting the Scott Livestock Transport, Scott’s of Mt. Gambier, Shell Oils USA55 sprint car, with Ashley Scott as a teammate. Last January, Hannagan qualified a Matt Muir-owned entry for the Grand Annual Classic and finished 16th, with a stout field of over 100-plus entries in attendance.

All three nights of the 2015 Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic will be broadcast live on pay-per-view online via thecushion.com.
